My boyfriend and his mate were out ferreting in the Clayton area of South Australia. He found a fresh snake skin near a warren and wants to know what it could have belonged to. It was about 3 inches in diameter and he thinks about 9 foot long. They were about 50m from the riverside.

Any ideas? ;)

Any Pics?
Just up the road is the Tolderol Game Reserve, which used to be full of tiger snakes, I'id see five or six each visit. Snake skins can stretch to almost double the animals length, so a 9 foot skin could come from a 4 1/2 foot tiger.
Of course the best way to ID it is to do a scale count or photo its head scalation.

try a mid body scale count, belly scale full width of divided?

Could you elaborate on what 'ferreting' is? If its what I think it is, I've never heard of them wild in SA.

Ferreting is my bf's silly lil past time he does with his man friend. You put a ferret down a rabbit hole and they chase the rabbits out into nets.

My bf is a bit of a scardy cat when it comes to snakes, but he says it was a huge skin.

Haha I see now, you'll have to toughen him up in the snake department, can't have him sooking over them ;)
