I got a 10 month old Darwin carpet python today, and boy is he snappy! The guy I got him from said he handles well and has never bitten him, but I've been bitten twice already and he keeps trying to tag me. He also tried to strangle my hand to death, and gave up after about 10min.

He is very very jumpy and snappy. I know getting him out for about 15 min each day should help him settle, but is there anything I can do to speed up the quieting down of his temper? It's not so much fun having your hand being bitten and hand squeezed into nothingness. :(

Yes...leave him alone.
He needs to settle down and get used to his surroundings....

leave him alone for a week :D
put him in a pillow case and handle him in there
after a while sick you hand in there and he will get use to you

Alrighty.. Thanks!

I guess I'll leave him alone and keep his cage covered so he doesn't feel threatened for a week or so then.

Started off on darwins! I love the good old Dawin :)
mine where very snap happy..not the male would never bite and same with the female they have turned into amazing pythons to take out and pass to anyone!

chloroform
works wonders on settling any living thing down....:D

How do you handle a snake in a pillowcase?

 Enjoy! Most little Darwins are like that....and for some time! hehe

Believe me when I tell you, with a bit of time and patience the little critter will settle down beautifully! ;)

Thanks, he's my second snake, copped my first two snake bites in one day! His little teeth sure make good marks!

I'm sure he'll settle down.. I just have to get through the pain until he settles I guess. I just hope I remember to keep him out of range of my face :D

Just make sure you don't pull back when you get shocked. a lot of people sell snakes they can't handle coz they're too snappy. don't be one of them! ;)

Mr Snake is starting to come round to being around me.. I think he's realised if he's good then he gets to stay out of of his cage, but if he's mean he has to go back in. He gets mighty cranky when I put him back! :)

There's no way I'm selling this handsome fellow, I'm happy to suffer what bites and stranglings I have to from him if that's what it takes to settle him into his new home :)
