I'd like to thank ray for his selfless assistance to a defenceless creature,I would also do anything possible to help an animal in distress and to hell with petty minded boofocrats who can't see beyond the rule book(life is not black & white but many shades of grey).I do agree that there should be rules to protect our flora & fauna but sometimes the rules hurt those needing our protection.

Well in this case the rule is perfectly fine - it's the lack of reasonable corollaries to the rule that's the problem. If they're not going to draw the distinction between someone who is legitimately helping the wildlife, and a wildlife "poacher", then where's the incentive to be proactive in protecting the wildlife? If they want people to step in when they see something like this (and they do, whether or not they openly state it - imho the lack of open stating is just plausible deniability for them) then they need to recognise when that's happening and not penalise law-abiding folk by going "Screw you, we're going to take your license AND your expensive, loved animal because you dared lay a finger on a wild native creature".

It's pants-on-head retarded.

Hope the DERM rep reads that.

It's a sad world we live in, but it's good to know there are still a few decent people around.
Well done mate.

Just checking the progress :)
Again well done and happy birthday for the 6th.
It is a shame that regulations are not revised to allow for genuine assistance to native fauna.
Releasing a rescue is not to difficult if you always veiw and treat them as a wild animal. We have a firm policy to activly avoid socialising rescues.
On that note, the bredli I drove 80km to get was going to be a social rehab project. It was advertised as a flighty animal and I love a challange. Turned out not to be so flighty when I got it home.
