Thor, non really (well, Im a vet nurse) but I dont have any zookeeping qualifications. I have just applied and been granted work experience at each of these zoos with the hope of getting a permanent job. Unfortunately I have been told that since I am a woman who is of child bearing age and recently married, no zoo will touch me. I do feel that is kind of harsh (I wasnt told this by an official, it was just in a general chat with a keeper at one of the zoos) considering I have no desire to have children ever, but I guess that it takes so long to train someone properly and I guess they dont want to spend a year training someone to have them leave for a year to have a child and expect to get their position back. I am resigned to the fact that I will never have my dream job of working in a zoo, just thought I would share the pics and say to anyone who is young to do all the courses you can and get yourself a position while you're young, cause once you're in your late 20's and married its impossible. :)

Cheers

Thor,
Actually having a diploma may help you (studying for 4 years to become a vet nurse apparently means nothing) but zoos LOVE people with diplomas, so that is a HUGE plus for you. Good luck, I wish you all the best.

Cheers

Dragoness, I know of 4 vet nurses working in wildlife that are in mid to late 20s that got jobs with limited wildlife experience. Its a matter of being there at the right time.

thats mad! harriet was so cool... i was lucky enough to meet her!
