G'day guys how's it going?
This holidays (I leave on the 26th June) I am going to South Africa.. I'm a vet student and one of the veterinary schools over there runs a wildlife symposium ("SYMCO") for international students. Thousands of vet students from all over the world apply, and I was one of 60 chosen! Needless to say I am absolutely chuffed.
We land in Jo'berg and spend the first night at their end of semester party, the next day we have guest African wildlife lectures and a welcoming banquet than it's off to the parks. We park hop, starting with Kruger, and spend two days at each park from then on. The whole trip is run by and for vet students so we'll be doing heaps of veterinary stuff with the animals (including darting from choppers, lion immobilisations, sample taking/measuring of various wildlife).. I am absolutely itching to get into it because it will be a dream experience, including LOTS of partying which is great!
I'm writing this partly to boast (haha sorry) but also to ask advice from people who have been. I have warm clothes because it will be freeezing there, and I have got a head lamp, boots and my malaria pills and vaccines all sorted. Is there anything else anybody can think of to take?
Any advice is great, cheers.
