Hey guys my lil bugger is 6 months approx now..and he's done some weird stuff latley..

About 1 month or more ago..after I fed him I gently picked him up to put him back in the enclosure...he turned and bit himself right where the mouse was inside of him..almost like he had an itch..i shat and quiclkly put him back ..

2 weeks ago...i took him out and def him as I do...on a stick that I have placed..(this is usually how I feed him) after he ate..i was trying to get him off gently...he got a real tight grip of my hand/fingers...made me think ok this is weird..then his head is lookin down at my finger im thinking its ok lil guy and BAM he opens his mouth I dunno if he opened slow or if I realised quick that he was going to ****g try eat my finger i pulled away I got very scared or just shocked I dunno normally this lil fella u can hold him till the cows come home give him kiss's everything friendly as..i pretty much dropped him..then was very hard to get him back in as I was a lil shaken up but eventually got him back in the enclosure..bad experience for us both. 1 Mistake I made here is I think im not 100% sure if I had washed my hands after handeling the container mouse in the glad wrap prior to feeding him :S so this i 'hope' is the cause...the last container of mice i got fkign stink real bad and I think this is the problem.

Anyway..last week when i fed him..he was way alert...like looking at me lijke he wanted to charge at me through the glass so I thought fk that I just dropped a mouse in which he grabbed and dragged back into his rock...

Now this is where I try get some balls and start to handle him again..i get him out take him outside for some vitamin E he starts gripping me tight im like 'oh no' as I quickly go to place him on the grass I cant be 100% sure but i think he went to eat my finger again :S?

I dunno..but its kinda like these new mice ive given him..this batch are like dirty wild ones n its changed him....made him feral..to the point where I would let my kids hold him np b4..but now i simply couldnt cos I think they might get bitten....but its not like hes just trying to bite..thast wouldnt be so bad...its he is going for the big open mouth swallow :S

The only thing i can think of doing is getting some gloves for when i handle him..and I need to keep handeling him to keep him friendly and tame I know but atm...even tho hes tiny...47cm im getting a lil scared?? any help is appreciated.

Just go with it and get some photos

OH MY GOSH! im shocked hahaha and scared but I feel a lil better seeing that u guys have had this prob..ok so I spose I need to ask...does it hurt?? i mean iv got tatts...ive had piercings....its only a lil snake cant be that bad right? n how long until they let go?

Who said they dont bite. You guys are good to get a photo, well done. My spotted got her teeth into my index finger and i didnt even realise(no feeling in that finger at all, industrial accident) but it took forever to get her off cause she got it down so far.. lol

   nvenom8 that has to be the funniest photo I have seen. Looks like you have him wrapped around your little finger (thumb in this case but still, I am trying to sound funny  )

You may find it helpful to use an alcohol-based hand wash before handling, but not feeding. This tastes bad, kills bacteria and has a distinctive smell to your snake. Eventually he will learn that hand wash means handling, not feeding. In order to further separate your smell from mouse smell, wash hands with regular soap and water, then try offering the mouse with tongs/forceps. Finally, handle during the day when the snake is not in hunting mode. Feed at night when he's hunting. We use these techniques and have found the snakes learn pretty quickly. It helps minimise bites. The worst part about a bite from a stimson is the surprise. The bite itself is not very impressive.

What!! You got tough stickers and peircings and your worried about a little snake! hahaha!
Just goes to show how your mind leads your body!hahahaha

He'll let go after about 15-20 sec..

pythonmum thanks for that....I will start doing that...from now on use grappa to wash hands b4 handeling haha and feed only at night ok got it....normally when I get him out during the day I literally lift off his hiding rock and pick him up...never a problem does this seem ok to u guys? otherwise I got no way of gettign him out during the day..

And Cement..thanks hahah yeh I know I seem like a pussy...i dunno why...my kids normally have no probs..i recon atm they would still handle him...

As u can see,.,friendly lil guy/girl

I bet you're pretty cranky when people come and pull you out of bed. Try only handling him/her when not hiding.:)

So dar so good my little lady hadn't tagged me but she has tried lots through the glass. I figure now is not a good time so I leave until she is in a better mood.

Lifting the hide up to handle him is fine as long as he knows you are there, I think your problem is that you are trying to handle too soon after feeding. Snakes have a strong feed instinct that lasts several hours after they have eaten so you should avoid handling him for 24 hrs after a meal. Good luck with him.

My spotted i had would try and eat my fingers ALL THE TIME, i never handled on the same day as feeding either i always left it a day or 2.. He wasn't aggressive and striking though, he'd just be cruising round your hand and next thing you know he opens his mouth and bites on.

I found it best to just relax and put your hand in the click clack and he'd eventually realise i wasn't food and give up and go back in his click clack, anything like trying to uncoil him or wet him it just seemed to make him stress and coil harder.

my spotted used to do this too me EVERY time i handled him. so i changed what i washed my hands with but when i handled him about 2 days after feeding he slowly started to open his mouth and bite me again.
so i increased his food. he eats two pinky rats when he gets fed now and he hasn't tried to bite me since :)

I love the bite pictures, keep em coming, what is it with Spotteds, they seem like hungry little buggers.

nachjoe the bite doesn't really hurt that much when they are little but that first photo that you posted, if your daughter gets bitten on the lip she will know about it
The photo that I posted, just after I took it he threw a loop around his head so that he could increase his bite force
My son entered that photo into the picture of the week on channel Tens toasted TV morning show and won a heap of wahoo beach products, we were jumping around like twits when they showed it on TV (I am a big kid at heart  )

For your enjoyment I have attached an interesting bite photo for you - Enjoy
A bite with eye ball action
