i have a Stimson he'll be 2 this December anyway since we have owned him he has only shed twice once in January and once in April this year I'm a bit worried cuz he hasn't shed since April over 4 months ago,

do snakes shed during winter???

also he is poo-ing less frequently
he used to poo almost every week 1 poo per feed

but since we started feeding him bigger rats fornightly instead of weekly, he did his first little poo in about 6 weeks??
is this because of the cold???
he has been very dormant throuout winter

Have you got it inside,in a enclosure, with enough heat, light, heat mat etc.,cause it really shouldnt make any difference what the temperature is,as long as the snake has enough warmth.

sounds like a temp problem . what are the temps . did you cool thru winter .
may be a good idea to go back to feeding smaller rats every week . if temps are ok .
should be shedding every 4 to 6 weeks

If you currently have NO heat, and live fifteen minutes East of I where I am, where it's colder than here, and you're still feeding... In THAT scenario, I don't think the snake will live very long. It's MUCH to cold here at the moment to leave them without heat.

gday Greg, I have three Stimmies that haven't started to feed this season as yet due to the temp. I have them in enclosures with heat pads set to 30 celcius and they mostly just lie around on these. I have never fed mine rats as they are a little too big for Stimmies to manage. I generally feed mine two adult mice and then don't feed them again until that meal has been passed. My two females are both around 6 years old and are bigger than suggested in all the texts, 1.3m nose to tail tip. These two large females I believe are too small a snake to eat an adult rat. you will absolutely need to get yours a temp controlled heat pad to keep them happy through winter. When they were small and growing fast I fed them through the winter months but always had a heat pad and a basking light. Hope this helps mate.

One more thing, while mine were growing during their first three or so years, they shed 5 to 7 times a year. I realise that they never really stop growing as every time they shed they put on a bit but it slows down considerably later on. My adults still shed 3 to 5 times a season.
