So im getting a juvie carpet python in a couple of weeks and all i have left to do is sort out the substrate and start testing everything.
Im looking for a natural looking substrate (i know newspaper is fine but i want to keep it all pretty natural), like dirt, moss or chips, that is reasonably easy to clean and holds decent humidity. Cheaper prices would be preferable :)
Any suggestions?

Aspen chips is the way to go I reckon, a decent size bag may set you back $40 or so but it would last quite a while with only one snake.

Kritters crumble IMO is the way to go. Although aspen is nice, it is fairly expensive compared to KC and I find KC looks more natural and like rainforest or whatever floor.
Just spot clean then replace every so often. Coco pearls also good. Just buy a block then soak in water so it separates and the dry it in the sun or whatever and put in. Plus it's very cheap. Just make sure it contains no pesticides/fertilizers.

I use coco peat for my woma, it holds water very well and is cheap and natural looking

Coco peat, reptibark, cypress mulch and aspen all make a nice substrate. Cypress mulch being the most "natural" looking. I have no idea how expensive that stuff us over there though.

I was recommended Kritters Crumble. I believe it's easy to spot clean and my carpet doesn't seem to be irritated by it lol. Bought the bag back in November for $28 and haven't used a third yet. :)
