Hi all,

with the high temps we have had this week, the ambient temps in enclosures are in the high 20's, is it ok if I dont heat the tanks whilst it is this hot.

i have 1 x diamond, 9months, 1x jungle 11 months and 1x MD, 9 months.

Thanks guys...

Don't think it should be a problem, i leave my heat running but the thermostats don't even turn on during the day anyways cause it's already warm enough lately, so it'd be practically the same thing. I'd say to turn it on at night though, cause you wouldn't be able to see any temp drops and act on it being asleep =p.

It'd be fine. Just I'd recommend providing a basking spot, just for a few hours in the morning. As the heat will be there, once the natural temps warm up, then the heat lamp will cause it to be to hot ofcourse. But whilst natural temps are rising, your pythons will just need a basking spot for 2 or 3 hours in the morning, that will provide a more natural habitat.

With no lights on at all, they won't be able to get a basking opportunity as they would be able in the wild.

I just switched off all my daytime timers due to the heat of the days I keep the night timer running for heat but just adjusted to run into mid morning so they can have heat through the coolness of the morning.

It's not ideal but you can't do to much about it. Today the ambient temp in the snake room is 29C and it's not really that hot outside. I still have all my heat set for during the day only but just turn down the thermostat a little eg 33-34 to 31-32 as my thermo works on air temp. My heat is off for most of the day just because of the thermos.
The reason I still have all my heat on is when the air conditioner is on it would then get too cold.

I am going to be moving my snakes to a cooler room shortly.

Unfortunately I only have the one room thats got aircon and thats the baby's room, But when we move up the coast I definitely want an aircon'd house.

It won't hurt them to have the heat off. Its better that than coming home from work, school or whereever to find dead snakes in scorched tanks. During the hot weather I have re-adjusted my heating to come on for 4 hours in the morning, then off for the rest of the day. Otherwise my poor snakes are pinned to their cool ends trying to escape the heat. If we get a cold snap, I just turn the heat back on all day, but while warmth is important for them, too much heat will kill them.

abnormal I don't want to sound critical of your advice but particularly in summer I'd be very careful using over-powered heat sources and relying on thermostats to keep the temperatures down. If your thermostat decides to bite the dust, your heat sources will be going flat out, making your tanks dangerously hot for your snakes. I am sure you know what you are doing, just offering something to think about so your animals won't suffer harsh consequences of a busted thermostat.

No worries kathy I use 1 40 watt spot globe for heat, it gives a basking spot of 33C normally. Even flat out in a hot room it probably wouldn't get over 35-36 (not great but shouldnt be lethal). I am lucky at the everyone at home is a shift worker so someone is always sleeping from doing nightshift so the AC is on when it's a hot day.

Get a quality thermostat, that way you don't have to worry as the stat will turn off the heat for you.
