So, out on a stroll, I found this fellow going for a walk, on top of a pond. I'm certain it's a wolf spider, anyone know enough to be more specific? Plus is this unusual behaviour, or do they enjoy the odd aquatic walk?
How large was it? It looks very different when compared with the true giant water spider that we get up here (I have spent some time filming them for docos). This is indicated by the different carapace shape, comparitively smaller tarsi length and for a mature specimen looks stockier and smaller (they are generally about outstreched hand size in my experience, link below indicates they can be smaller though).
See here Megadolomedes australianus (L. Koch, 1865) Giant Water Spider
There are a whole bunch of smaller Dolomedes species that all look very similar. I don't even know if they have all been described yet? I could have a guess but that is all it would be based on the photo.
