I would assume that as long as they are ok to have on a WA license that you would have no problems?

Stimsons are allowed on a cat 3 licence and I believe many people in WA buy from over east?
SW Carpets are allowed on a cat 3 too, but not sure about centrals?
BHPs are allowed on a cat 4 licence.

I can't see that it would be illegal as these snakes are all sold and kept in WA.

Doesnt WA have a ban on all imports?

Yes, even if the animal was originally from WA and then exported, it cannot be imported back to WA. There is no imports into WA.

To my understanding it is a matter of disease control.

Elapids on the WA keepers list yes, Pythons and Colubrids, no. This is fact, not a guess.

Animush I am surprised at your reply seeing that It would appear you live in Perth and have a WA keepers license.

Lizards that are on the list are ok too

I know which snakes we are allowed to keep in WA but didn't know anything about a ban on imports. I was just advising that his snakes could be kept in WA as there are a lot of species available in the east coast that are not available in WA.

In simple words.

NO Python species are allowed to be imported into WA legally.
All Lizard species on the WA keepers list can be legally imported into WA
All Elapid speices that are on the WA keepers List can be legally imported into WA

CALM or whoever they call themselves now stopped the import of pythons into WA cause of IBD, which they believe in not in WA, but cases have been documented to the best of my knowledge.
When the species list came out it had only animals endemic to WA, ie, must occur naturally in the wild there, but the list was neither comprehensive nor setup for long term sustainability. CALM has always had the view that the reptile laws must be able to pay for themselves, therefore the high ( ridiculous ) costs.
They are tools, as many eastern species of python already are in WA, both from illegal importation and from display / educational people, and unfortunately they lack the foresight and natural common sense that most humans are born with.
For example, whilst in the pilbara i had handed in to me a PAIR of captive bred PILBARA OLIVE PYTHONS. I took them to CALM, and they died from neglect 2 months later. ***??
Another, the roughies in broome. The guy's they had the roughies with were getting eggs off them years ago, but COULDN"T BE BOTHERED doing all the right things to ensure that the eggs were given the best chance at survival, consequentially 2 whole clutches of eggs went off and were thrown out. I was there when the eggs were thrown and i had a little tear in my eye, alot of disgust was hidden.

Just my view anyway from 6 years in WA and working closely with CALM for 4 of those.

Your view is shared by me JimnTraf... DEC as they now call themselves are a law unto themselves...
