hey, just wondering if anyone knows how to tape up juvenile freshwater crocs correctly so that they dont bark and go mental??

My little freshy is being a prat but is a good handler!!

The simple answer is dont tape its mouth

Would you ever trust someone again if they taped your mouth shut??

With any reptile the whole handling thing comes down to trust on the reptiles part

very good point but you would want to gain its trust very fast... :p worth a try

I've always found 6 inch nails and some fast grab liquid nails works well.

um no offense but a bite from croc is nasty as well with the bacteria in the mouth your asking for bad infections and so on.
don't think i've seen a display where the crocs mouth isn't taped up for the obvious safety reasons

Why are you handling it in the first place, if it wants to bite you it's probably stressed. Taping it's mouth isn't going to help.

crocs arent puppy dogs that like to be handled all the time hence the reason they are kept in huge caged ponds and people dont go in their unless they are the keeper and are feeding them, just becuase they are small doesnt change it.

InFlorida and other Southern States you can walk up to virtually any bit of water and call gators with that sqeak
just like we call ducks
Bloody awesome to see a gator surface and swim right up to the bank if you are hidden
If you are out in the open they just stay off shore a little bit and try to look tough
Nothing at all like salties

Ohhhh I know what your talking about now! It's not really a bark but more of a squeak I agree

i took my daughter to a rep show the other day and the guy had a little freshy. he didnt tape its mouth, he used a soft hair elastic.

That is one of the biggest problems with owning crocs
Very very few crocs any where on Earth can be free handled with total confidence
[I know there are one or two exceptions on Utube etc]
If people went to a reptile demonstration and saw a jungle python etc etc with its mouth taped they would scream the house down
But its seemingly ok to tape a croc???
That is why we dont have them on display here

hey Longqi,
That's a heaps interesting comparison, I've never thought of it like that, so you've certainly got through too me :)

granted I always think...that can't possibly be good for their eyes?! when they tape them over

If they are only young, they shouldn't be able to break the skin, especially a freshy..... I have seen multiple displays and shows where young freshies are handled with no issue.

I would trust virtually any snake I have ever owned not to bite someone when I gave it to them to play with

I honestly do not think I would say the say the same about any croc I have come in contact with
I happily admit I have had little to do with freshies
The last big croc I had much to do with was delicious

Curiousity now
Are there any displays where they free handle; ie pass around; untaped adult freshies??
