Hi Guys,

I am relatively new and I seem to be having some heating issues with my Vivariums. I have two wooden Viv's. Both seem to run at abut 30 degrees with just lighting present, I have heating present at one end of the cage and can get that to a comfortable 36 but im worried about the cage running at 30 degree.

One of the cages has a large roof vent present but the temp still remains at 30. I may have to put in a large roof vent on the second cage but if the first is anything to go by its not going to help that much.

So am I correct to be worried about a 30 degree constant temp? and if so any suggestions?

whats size are they ? where is the heat light in the enclosure/s ? pics would be handy , whats the room temp?

where do you live?
my herp room sits at about 30 this time of year during the day, no matter how big the vents are the lowest i can get my enclosures is the room temp!

Im in Adelaide so the temp is about 30 degree at the moment anyway, but the cages are in the house and the house is about 27 degrees. one cages is 90x50x60cm and the other is 120x50x50. Lighting is supplied from twin 12", and heating from a 150watt heating globe.

Hi I am also in Adelaide. The room my pythons are in sits between 25-28 at this time of year. Obviously the heaters work a lot less on their dimming thermostats and what not. I also turn all heating off at night.

What type of fluro batterns are they? do they feature the cylindrical removable starters or the old type? I know the older ones can throw quite a bit of heat out.

Are you using a thermostat on your heating? 150watt seems a lot for your size enclosures. I was using an 100watt globe which blew about a week ago and I only had a 60w as backup and low and behold the 60 is doing fine for this time of year anyway. My largest enclosure is 100x100x55 atm.

yeah id drop the light down too a 60w and see how that goes but 150w is probably alot of overkill for that size enclosure especially using a globe

Lighting is using the removable starters. Ill get 2 smaller heat globes tomorrow.

but 30 degree air temp is ok? at what point is the air temp startig to get too high?

in my 4ftx3ftx2ft i run 20-25 cold end and 30-35 hot end and spray water (couple light mists) per day. just watch the activity of the reptile and see how it acts. and customise that to make it comfortable so it can adjust and move around the enclosure without being to hot or cold
