I would like Makybe.... Would be in the same footsteps as Pharlap then.. 3 wins from three consecutive races...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Phar Lap only won two consecutive Cups. Makybe Diva made history today becoming the first horse to ever win three consecutive Cups.

Is it too late to vote? I didn't look at any of the previous votes, as I didn't want to be influenced by anyone else.

I reckon the following looks like a good bet:

1st - Makybe Diva
2nd - On a Jeune
3rd - Xcellent

Good luck everyone! ;-) Hope your horse wins!

Yeah Makybe is the only horse to win 3 cups but Phar Lap still wins on the fastest run I think.

me boss at work let me pick one for him today but it didnt win anything for him lol. i picked vinny roe :?

Oh ok.... I may have been wrong...Not sure... Though why is it everyone is comparing maktbe to Pharlap.... If Makybe one the extra race there is no comparison, Makybe is better.

Whatever...:p.....

I won some Money.... Win and Place on Makybe...:p:p:p:p

Bloody good horse! I got nothing.. but was at randwick and picked a couple of other winners. As for being compared to Pharlap I dont think so look at both there overall records, I think Pharlap hd 39 races for like 31 wins and some second and thirds in there too, makybe has run half that and no where near the win ratio, but still the best we have seen for a long time thats for sure.

I went to the Wagga races and backed a few winners before the big race. I put $75 on Makybe Diva to win at $4.60. :D

Not a bad days work.

Phar Lap only won one Melb Cup as for the quickest horse Rain Lover held the race record of 3 minutes 19.1 seconds (1968) when the Cup distance was two miles. With the change to the metric distance of 3200m in 1972 (being 18.7m shorter), a pacesetter record was established, with Rain Lover?s estimated time calculated at 3:17.9.

Only two horses have clocked faster times - Tawrrific (3:17.1) in 1989 and present day record-holder, Kingston Rule (3:16.3) in 1990.

Pretty bloody smart aren't I.... ( I love google)

IMO you can't compare Phar Lap and the Diva it is like comparing the invincibles to the current aussie cricket side (forget the ashes we never won a toss)

don't think you can compare diva to phar lap, espically cos they had to cheat to let the diva win yesterday.

in phar laps day you raced on whatever track you had, watering the track to favor diva isn't fair on the other horses, so i say diva only won two cups, and the vrc the other. :)

By that reasoning, Australia has never won Test series at home then.

One other reason why you can't really compare the two is that the Diva was carrying 58kg while Phar Lap carried a staggering 68kg(10 stone 3) in his last Cup race!!!!! Unfortunately the VRC weighed Phar Lap out of the chance to be able to perform anything similar to what the Diva just accomplished.

The Diva's a good horse....but not the best ever, nobody beats Phar Lap ;). I wrote out this big thing yesterday only to have the computer screw me over and I lost it before I posted . Can't be buggered writing it all again but just cos she won 3 cups doesn't mean she's better. I'm not trying to down play what she's done, but the whole "we'll never see it again in our lifetime" thing seems a bit odd to me. I stole this from an article I found googling phar lap just for comparison:

"Carbine carried 10st 5lbs (66kg) in a field of 39 runners in 1890 and won in record time. Phar Lap could do anything including four wins in the one week at the 1930 Flemington carnival: the Melbourne Stakes, the Melbourne Cup, the Linlithgow Stakes and the CB Fisher Plate.
Tulloch in 1956-57, as a three-year-old, was unbeatable. He would score extraordinary wins by 10 lengths. The great Bernborough won the Newmarket Handicap with 9st 12lbs (62.5kg), a Doomben 10,000 with 10st 5lbs (66kg) and the Doomben Cup with 10st 11lbs (68.5kg) in 1946. He won 15 races straight and was just marvellous."

I read on another site yesterday that Carbine won 2 races in one day on four different occasions! Then there's all the other stuff like the conditions of the turf, the weight of the steel shoes they used to use compared to the aluminium ones they have today, the food and supplements that are used these days to keep horses in peak condition...etc etc. Phar Lap had 51 starts, 37 wins and 5 placings in his 5 years before he died. Makybe Diva has had 35 starts, 14 wins and 7 placings as a 7 year old. Imagine Phar Lap had had a full racing career? There'd be nothing ever seen like it I imagine. Anyway, blah blah blah I could go on forever

News article reckons her kiddies are tipped to sell for $3 million each....makes GTP's look pretty bloody cheap :p

I reckon the following looks like a good bet:

1st - Makybe Diva
2nd - On a Jeune
3rd - Xcellent

This would get you a casual $37 000 with an initial bet of $5. Ther was something on A Current Affair about a girl who got the trifecta.
