i just got a new snake on sunday and having troubles getting him to eat he just moves away and hides. Is it cause i'm using frozen pinkies not live ones.
i was told to feed him on tuesday &i tried yesterday and to day no luck
any tips i tried jiggly it around he just took off' could it be cause my tank is to big 30x30x45 cm i put him i a lunch size container and a pinkie to see what happens?????

let him settle in for a week or 2. he is probably stressed being in a new environment. dont handle him for a few days before feeding either until he gets used to you.

is the tank 30 cm or 30 inches? also if the temps arent right he wont want to eat. what are your temps?

sorry just re read your post, the tank doesnt sound like it is too big

that sounds alright. a trick i find with my coastal was to leave it in there, then cover the tub up with a dark pillow case etc and wait half an hour. mouse was always gone when i went back.

ps you should never feed your animals live food anyway

i'll try that now thanks. if it does not work i'm going to do the same with a live pinkie

There are lots of things to try before offering live pinkies.

Doing a search on here will bring up heaps of threads on this subject.

If you only got this snake on Sunday, do not try and feed it again now.
Leave the poor bugger alone for at least a week, even two.

Then, you can try a nicely warmed up frozen pinkie. If it doesn't eat, leave it alone for a week and then try again.

There are other things you can try after that..

re Troubles

Stimsons should be in a little clik clack or something similar, ideal size is 6 cm high and 28 cm long and about 14 cm wide, most sellers should be able to give you the one theyve kept the snake in. You should have received some records with the snake, some will onley except fresh killed pinks or fuzzies if thats what the breeder uses.
When the hatchling grows put it in a bigger tub proportionately and so on.
Yeh i know theres some around like DECC that like the whale cages for minnows etc, dont worry about that they spend their time hiding or eating mostly.
I put some pics up of a childreni here in the size plastic container some are in now at 4 months old.
