I bought some murray short necked turtles on sunday at the expo and they been alright from what i gathered but tonight instead of sleeping one of them won't stop swimming at the sides of the tank or touch the ground is something wrong?

They'll take a while to settle in, just like any animal, so will probably be a little stressed. Have you been turning the lights off at night? And do you have plenty of places for them to hide, and things for them to rest on near the surface?

They should be settled after a week and a half. Try a site devoted to Australian freshwater turtles.
Are they able to get out of the water? Does it only do it when you are in the room? Mine do this whenever they are hungry which is most of the time.

i turn the light off at night and i made sure they can come out of the water and have plenty of places to hide they are eating but they only want to eat blood worms even though they're offered other things

dont feed them for a couple of days , u may find that will adjust there attitudes towards diffrent foods . just remember turtle dinners are rubbish .

Turtles and fish

I got a turtle for christmass from my wife, only a baby. Recently I looked after a mates turtle (1yr old) and the tank they were in was way too small. So we got a big one and put some fish in it.
My mates turtle is used to having fish in his tank and everyone lived happily.
When I got the new tank I put a heap of fish in there, then my mates turtle, then mine. After 24hrs both turtles went bezerk and started eating them all, so we quarrantened the fish into the old tank.
My mate took his turtle back and now it's killing all his fish.
Is there a way that the fish and turtle can co exist or are the fish destined to be food?

turtles are just destined to eat and eat and eat and eat. anything they can fit in their mouth. my mates turtles ate the fins off the fish because he couldnt eat the whole fish. Then again i have another mate who has an outdoor enclosure with lots of small fish and larger turtles and they get on quite well. Whether or not it has anything to do with the speed/intelligence of the fish, room to get away from them, or temperature I dont know. I dont own any turtles and I am FAR from an expert on them (if your asking why im posting then, its because im BLOODY bored at uni) but when researching to see if i wanted to get some for my feeder fish tank i read in almost every resource and heard from almost everyone i asked, that the turles will end up trying to eat them because it is MOSTLY (not always) in their nature to eat anything, including feeder fish.

my turtles live with gold fish in there ponds . only one of my turtles have ever eatern a gold fish , but that fish was new to the pond . [ i must add im taking about my long necks ] i dont think a fish would last long with my 2 short necks [ they are just plain nasty ]

As Peter reccomended check out australianfreshwaterturtles.com it's my turtle bible they have the best care sheets ever! I'd say they are just settling in give them time and maybe some space for a few days, they can be very shy at first...
Club.rock I have 3 short necks all in an indoor setup together and have about 20 feeder fish in there from neon's to platypus feeders and none have been eaten - although I wish they would but I think my turtles have made friends with them tee hee - they are gutsy little guys but have heard stories they either devour them or make friends just depends on your turt : )

baby koi fish are the best feeder fish, i put 20 in and my 2 turtles will eat them in 1hr.
ive also had ciclyds and they ate the fish before the turtles did and bullied my turtles so i got rid of them. also at feeding time when im feeding them they fight over who gets the food like biting each other
i have a short neck and a long neck together
