turtle lamp height?

Hi im moding my turtle tank how high should the uv fluro be away from the basking site to encorage them to bask?

The flouro needs to be a minimum of 300mm for the UV to be effective as it is dissipated over a greater distance and becomes ineffectual.

but how close is too close will it freek it out at like 200mm above the site?

Shouldn't be any reason why it should freak out. Have it on a timer so that it goes on in the morning and turns of in the evening. You may need to provide a heat spot as well.
