I just took my black headed python to the vet & he diagnosed burns.

I have to treat her twice a day with Bepanthen
He also recommended a water bath once a week with added fabric softener (un-perfumed) to help with the scabs & future shedding problems.

Just wondering has anyone ever used fabric softener before?
Any help/opinions greatly appreciated

omg!this will be intresting.. i wonder if its aloud? im not saying yes or no, but i hope someone knows coz it seems wierd a vet would tell you to do that for burns?

I don't know about the Bepanthen.

...however, a small amount of unperfumed fabric softener in a bath will definately help with shedding. My understanding is that only a few drops is required...

Yeah i thought it odd, but the way he explained it made a whole lot of sense.

He said that it will help lubricate inbetween the old & new skin which she will have trouble with for awhile because of the burns

Thanks Aslan
I get the Bepanthen, as it is an anitseptic moisturiser help with the scabbing

Vet said its going to take awhile to heal anywhere up to eight weeks:cry:, but anything for my girl

Yeah, I'de just trust your vets judgement, you must respect the individual if you took your BHP too them.

Hey Froglet, good luck with your bhp, how did it get burnt ? Keep us posted on how it is getting on

Silvadene cream, or good old betadine is really good for burns also. Soaking in a betadine solution for 20-30 mins can be beneficial, fabric softener is a new one to me but i guess your vet knows what he/she is on about.

Try Paw Paw cream its great on burns and all natural i use it for dry skin it works great.

Rosa, The Scarless Healer (health food shop) is really good and so is Manuka honey. If i have a snake that's having trouble shedding i pour a generous dash of Alovera juice into about 1L of water (usually warm water) and let them soak in that for half hour to an hour. When you get the snake out, the skin just falls of in your hands. Also wouldn't hurt the burns.

my mates snake had burn from a light in his enclosure when the case surrounding it fell down during the day and the vet said to use unperfurmed fabric softner and some other cream stuff aswell. it worked fine and healed really well.

as for bepanthen cream......it feels good on a fresh tattoo ^_^ so bet it would feel good on a burn otherwise woudln't know.

My Vic has nasty scars from burns from before I got him, we bath him in water and fabric softener just after his eye clear up before he sheds, works great and he doesnt mind in the slightest, I will find the bottle and post the brand.

I agree with the tattoo bit, he asked me if i knew bepanthen i said yes i have tattoos (maybe they should re-do the packaging for it to say "for the treatment of nappy rash & tattoos"
