Hi guys, I really don't knowwhat to do my around 1 year old bearded dragon Mataxica was having spazes when I woke this morning, she was running around the tank slamming into everything then fell into the water bowl bitting its own tail I I quickly got her out and lay her down on the land, she is now just laying there with really labored breathing. I looked around the tank the other lizard Saffa is fine she is just freaked out by Maxie, but I found piles of undigested crickets I dont know if she vomited them up or poo them out either way she must have done it in the night.
What should I do? She is breathing really hard now and she isnt moving, should I take the other lizard out just in case? Set her up somewhere else? If So which lizard the sick one or the okay one?
And is there any reptile vets in the sydeny area? Near mortdale or hurstville? Or well anywhere in Sydeny?

I really dont wanna loose my little girl =(

I would suggest taking her to the vet there is a reptile vet David Vella, NORTH SHORE VETERINARY SPECIALIST CENTRE in crows nest... he is quite good..
Give them a call and see what they say. his number is 9436 4884

Good luck hope she gets better!!!

this happened to me in july, Boos blood test showed a massive infection.

i had her at teh vets within a couple of hours and she made a full recovery.

fortum is the anti biotic David Vella prescribed for Boo, i think hes on hols, but any reptile vet that will prescribe it will do.

i will find and post a link to Boos story.

I had a very young one do this to me a few years ago, ended up being MBD.... vet asap

she has gone back to labored breathing now, and isnt moving and going really dark gah I hope they can help

yep I went to the vet she gave me some medication, she doesnt know what it is she says it might be a virus or an infection she desided virus was very unlikely for the other lizard was fine

good work. hope she gets better :)

Good to hear you have something for the lizard... I hope the medicine works and your beardie gets better... Only too happy to help where I can :)

Thanks you really did help !
Just another question I have to get the medicine into her but how do I hold her? Like to hold her head so she doesnt move, the vet said when I get the suringe to her mouth she will just open up but how do I stop her from shaking her head just hold her head at the sides?

you have to hold her firmly. You might find wrapping her in a tea towel will help as that will immobilise her limbs then you can grasp around the neck/base of the skull to keep her head still without having to worry about the rest of her body. I havent often found them to be willing to open their mouths so I usually use a pop stick to get them to open it

I dont really have a pop stick will a thin spoon work? like plastic one?

Its probably better to use something thats less likely to break than a plastic spoon, but on the other hand you dont want anything too hard either (like metal). I would try pushing the syringe into the corner of her mouth and see if it will cause her to open her mouth,I havent tried this before but something like a bank card or drivers licence would do the trick.
Hopefully she opens her mouth for you without any dramas but if she gives you too much trouble maybe drop by an arts and craft or junk shop tomorrow and try to get some pop sticks - they do make some which are broader and thinner than regular paddle pop sticks, I find they work much better

Good luck!
