Hi everyone

I just got back today from melbourne, where i was looking after my uncles farm. While i was away i had my friend feeding and looking after my eastern snake necked turtles.Just 10 minutes ago i went into check on the 2 little guys i have set up in my garage. When i went in to get them out of there tank for feeding i saw on one of their heads had an odd swelling on its head. The swelling was white and looked pretty strange, its barely raised so it could be just the skin lifting up and peeling but it doesnt look any thing like that really. Also my other little guy I have in my tank has skin peeling all over its neck, and i really dont know whats wrong and am really worried! I am really really hoping that its alright and am hoping that you guys can help!Oh, and everything in their tank is fine, water quality and everything else is fine. Please help!

Thanks in advance, Brendan

I was just thinking, to small turtles usualy lose skin like that?, I have only ever kept large turtles.

i would get straight to a vet sounds like some sought of infection

The white bit might be fungus, as for the skin coming off it is most likely just shedding its skin.
Have you got a good unfiltered UV light for them?

If it is a fungal problem it should be able to be fixed if you treat it fast enough.
As said post a pic or take it to a vet.

il post a pic, i have got a uv light and he is eating very well, it is barely swelling, it s less then a millimeter raising, but i thought better safe than sorry. And yes if no one can say definitely why it would be doing this i will take it to the vet.

Sorry, i have just been trying to take a picture but can get no clear image. I was looking and have realized that it is no swelling and it could easily be skin lifting off, but does this usally happen in the middle of the head?

I'm interested to know how your turtles head is ? I also have longnecks and one has a similiar problem. I thought it was damaged skin from the other constantly kicking him on the top of his head. Dunno ?

Hornet had a problem that sounds a bit the same with a couple of his turtles a couple of weeks ago...maybe ask him what the end result was...I didn't find out so I can't tell you.
Good luck with them though, I love turtles, don't have any yet but would love some.

Sounds like a sort tissue injury

best to take to a vet tho

change your tanks water

Its definately a fungal infection, it can be a number of factors causing it.
Soft tissue injury, poor water quality etc etc.
Have you read Expansa's care sheet. It will give you a lot of advice. Whats the water quality like. Adding a small amount of aquarium salt helps against fungal infection.
You should drydock your turtle and treat the infected area with a betadine solution. See a vet as well.
These are just perfunctory and abridged suggestions. You should be able to expand from them after reading the caresheet.
somebody will have a link
