Perhaps it’s the wording of your post, but I find it unusual that you dismiss the potential danger your pythons could pose. Depending on species kept, some may argue that a large python has just as much, if not more potential to do harm than an elapid. After all there is no antivenene for asphyxiation.

Not these overfed softies. The majority of handling gets done while he is asleep, the only exception would be when I'm cleaning out the cages. Because my son is so interested when I'm holding the snakes, I'll introduce them to each other (with the portion of the snake in front of my hand fully extended and not if it's in a bad mood). Which usually ends with my son trying to touch the snake so I'll pull it away.

I have a 2&1/2 year old son and one due in a few weeks,

Congrats mate! I find no greater joy than trying to teach my son everything I know and more...
