Hey Everyone,

Don't know if anyone else has had this problem - but i turned 18 this year and enrolled to vote when i turned 17 so I had assumed I was on the electoral role.

When my friends found out recently that although they had enrolled to vote - when they checked at www.aec.gov.au - they weren't on the roll. This is starting to look rather suspicious...

I checked my details today at the AEC website and I'm not on the electoral role either - even though i actually received a confirmation letter last year stating my enrolment.

Apparently 1/3 of Australians aged 18-25 aren't enrolled to vote - which equates to about 410 000 people.

SO MAKE SURE YOU'RE ENROLLED!!!!

You can get the forms from the above website or from Australia Post..

That reminds me, I need to change my address details with the AEC.

Oh wow, lucky you told me!
I just presumed that form I filled out and the letter I received back (the same situation as you) meant that I would be enrolled to vote when I turn Eighteen!

I'm really annoyed... I got woken up by some woman at 8am on my day off a few weeks ago, who proceeded to tell me that I can't enrol at my address because it is classed as a commercial property. I'm not a morning person and didn't take too kindly to this... I rent my apartment as a residental property, but it has 'Shop' in the address...

So anyway, she said she'd look into it and a week later a letter turned up saying I'm enrolled at my address MINUS the 'shop', which isn't right bcause there is also a unit in my block with the same number, so they've enrolled me at their house!!

AND... on top of that, I'm in the WRONG SUBURB!!! How ridiculous!!

It still puts me in the same electorate (which is awesome coz I'm in Bennelong so I get to vote good old Johny OUT!), but it's quite frustrating anyway!!

Ok, that's it for my whinging!!

Hmm.. Should I be enrolling? I didn't know anything about this enrollment thingo, I just assumed that once you turn 18 you go vote:p

Haha missy yes you should enrol!! lol - its really easy as long as the corrupt government doesn't throw out your forms!

and erin - hooray you actually get to vote johnny out - i'm in rudd's electorate - so i get to vote for him (if i'm enrolled on the day) :)

I'm usually not HUGELY concerned, especially seeing as I come from an area where it's so old school that it's damn near impossible to have a change in government at any level... But it was one of the first things I changed when I moved coz I knew I'd be in his electorate! heheh...

I moved in feb this year and didn't change my enrollment address, i got a letter from the AEC a couple of weeks ago , Your enrollment address is (old address) but we have reason to believe you live here (new address) please confirm your address within 20 days or you will be taken off the roll, i got the letter in the mail 18 days after it was dated, wonder if im still enrolled, anyway moral is you can't hide from the government.
