Wat do your mates friends , family & people we meet in our think re the hobby of keeping reptiles

I know people Ive meet & work freeked out but soon realize & learn about reptiles some change there veiws on snakes & other such reptiles . I known of some changing the way they treat & look after there own pets .Weither it be a cat , dog Or bird !

I know I learnt alot not just keeping reptiles
habbits change weither be good or bad due wat we learn

my family and friends think that I am a pleasant eccentric :D

But they all like to come over and handle the reptiles, it's something so DIFFERENT for most people that they find it fascinating! I think the kids are the most fun with them, they usually aren't old enough to have pre-conceptions.

my mates don't care. work mates hate'm and love'm.2 of my brothers are ok with them and the other is reptile nut like me the other family members hate them

since i have had snakes 1 mate of mine have got them and 3 of my wife's friends(all girls) and a friend from work has gotten snakes from seeing mine and holding mine they relise they are not that bad so i have good thing come from mine

dam your wifes friends saw and held your snake and the wife was fine with it?? awesome.

Most of my friends are animal-oriented people, so they don't find it that unusual at all. Family got used to me being 'different' about 30 years ago and are now fully habituated. Workmates are in two minds about it - some think it's weird, but don't care as long as I do a good job; the others think it's cool and want me to bring one of the snakes in to work one day to show them (which ain't gonna happen).

:p

Well........ put it this way! - I'll never buy a cat again! :D  Certainly not as a pet!

YAY!!!!

Mine all think I'm a freak and react utterly disgusted, but that's more to do with the spiders. My father only comment ever has been, "you're nuts, kid".

I can understand in a way, as I feel the same way about their cat as they do about my herps and spiders. :)

My dad keeps getting his own lizards (curently on my licence as I live at home), my mum likes them but doesnt like handling them much (she still will though), sister luvs turtles and diamond pythons, most of my guy mates luv either snakes or turtles (lizards their not bothered with), and by gal friends either luv all reptiles or despise them and have flat out refused to enter any room containing one.lol

Very few of my friends share my passion but they are obsessed in their own way.
One is an alcaholic, one is a musician. Several are aircraft fanatics some to the extreme that one bought a house under the flight path on purpose, another has huge photo albums and if I mention any single aircraft he knows it and its name like george or whatever. Funnily enough none of the women I known seem to have obsession type hobbies.
I eat breath and sleep reptiles. I am sick.

Well my neighbours hate the fact that i have snakes in the house, they're fully scared of them, and kill GTS if its there. but now when they find one i get them to call me over to retrieve it. usually its gone by the time i get there, but it saves a few snake lifes.

Your English is pretty good Barney, what country do you originally come from?
My immediate family don't share my enthusiasm for herps. My old man is ok with it but my brother & sister wont go near them. A few people at work ask me to bring in reptiles but I have to be careful when I do it as there are a few people that are terrified of them.
I have changed quite a few peoples opinions of snakes but some people are just plain ignorant.

99% of people think I am totally ******* mad. My wife once said to me, "Why can't you be like normal people and get a dog or something." She is cool with it now but won't handle anything. A lot of people are really scared of them, and I only have one snake at the moment. By next year, I shall have about 10 snakes, so I can't wait to see their faces if they ever visit... lol

They keep the GFs mom away, but some freinds bring thier kids around. At the last place of work it was compulsory for me to bring in new acquisitions to show off (laws in SA are not to NSW standards) but had to make sure the phobics were aware that the snake was there so they could keep a comfortable distance.
