Seal all the edges. That's all you can do. It will be water resistant at best.

yeah a good bathroom/kitchen silicon as they are made to withstand moisture. push it into the corners joints nice and firmly, this should do the trick

i use no more gaps then paint over it with a white gloss acrylic as it is easier to wipe down.

The easiest way to get a decent looking finish with silicone is to put a bead of it along the edges then use a wet finger to smooth it over.
Go have a look around your bath and see what I mean

how do i do it? im googling it too, so yeah

Yes it can be done.

I have two display enclosures that i purchased from a cabinet maker friend of mine who built them for a customer, before he was paid for them the customer went to prison, so he offered them to me for cost, i grabbed them.

The complete floor and 100mm up the side has been waterproofed with 2 pak rubberised coating about 10mm thick.

Definately waterproofed.

Why would you?
Melamine isn't exactly the best looking

Ya can get colored filler (no more gaps) so just get the same color as ya timber. Thats what i do.
And for the edges, buy some edging tape from bunnings or where ever. Makes it look nice too :D

Just buy waterproofing stuff! Its called gripset or something, looks really bad though, so only to be used on the base or behind your background. Need a few coats. The rest of the joints just used silicone. Easy!

I must be lame cause i list the reptiles i keep...

You can make it look nice... it comes in all kinds of colours and its a cheep and it does look good.... all of the people i know have all of there inclosures made out of it. My brother in law that is a member on this site( kjcustoms) makes them and sells heaps of them!!! Also sell them to pet shops. So they cant be that bad. Most people cant afford to buy the expencive ones and with the melamine you can oftern make a bigger better enclosure to suit your needs. What are your enclosures made out of???

The only bad thing about "gap filler" is that they tend to crack because of the heat, even when I used the one thats meant to be used on "moving objects" it cracked.

Any silicone is fine once it's dry properly

i use a product that is from mitre 10 or bunnings and it is in a spray can it is also clear and it is fine aslong as you let it air for a couple of days. it is called water guard.
