Hi all, just a quick question.

My 2 yo childreni appeared to have grazed himself recently in his cage somehow, so I took him to the vet, and on examining the inside of his mouth, she found he was fairly heavily bruised all over his head. He is receiving bed rest and antibiotics and seems to be doing ok.

I was totally puzzled as to how he could have hurt himself in this way, as his tub only has his water bowl, a thermometer and hide in it.

But then I had a closer look at his tub, and saw that the rim of the lid is raised and has gaps between the inside edge of the lid and the walls of the tub that the snakes head could fit into. This is the only possible way he could have hurt himself, squeezing in then getting stuck and panicking. I have had zero issues in this tub for 9 months, perhaps because he was smaller, tho I never saw him crawl into the space in the rim of the lid. now I want to replace it ASAP.

For those of you who keep antaresia in single lidded tubs, what brand of tubs do you use and have had no problems with? As I'm a little paranoid now :)

systema for hatchies but i dont know about 2yo pythons my dad uses an aquarium but you want plastic so i dont realy know

A 2yr old should be virtually fully grown if fed well. How big is the animal you are talking about and what size is the tub you are referring to?

You can buy pretty big tubs these days, but as they get bigger, the latching system seems to not work very well

I do not normally keep snakes in tubs & it has been a while since housing spotted etc.
But I do find that the Starmaid containers have a good fitting lid. I use these for temporary housing or display at Expos.

Cheers
Ian

He was a small guy when I got him, so he is now only 130g. The tub is a 40l one from Bunnings, so talking around that size.

JAS101 and MR Ian Davo, thanks for the starmaid recommends :)

consider starmaid containers containers for larger snakes. all my stimson's pythons are housed in these. you can get them from BIG W, Bunnings and Woolworths. they are quite a good size for snakes.

i put a tile on the under side of the starmaid 50lt tub as they arnt flat at the bottom and the heat transfers the tile and into the tub very well .

I found my starmaid boxes to be very good on heat wire as heat rises well through container
