Hi there,

I've just received my license and now I'm preparing my enclosure for when the beardies start hatching (Sept - Nov right?)

Now I'm deciding between 2 enclosures:

Reptile Lizard Snake Enclosure Tank | eBay

SPT003 Reptile Frog Snake Solid Wood Glass Enclosure 1m | eBay

Any advice on these guys?

I would like to have the 1m one for the extra space, I feel like 3ft is the BARE minimum considering they can grow fairly big (Central Bearded)

How would the heating go in the larger one?

Both connections for the heat are wired to the same thermostat on the black one, so it'd be hard to heat the enclosure at night time without red or ceramics; but don't beardies like bright light?

Is there any similar priced, similar looking (if melamine in black) ones available around the Sydney area?

I don't have a tremendous budget but about 400-450 for a 4ft enclosure with fittings would be nice.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

That first one only has household bayonet fittings for the two hooked up to the thermostat by the look of it.
That could restrict the possible light and heating options.
Not to mention its pick up only in Melbourne.

Go on...

I got a quote for 65 for delivery for the Melbourne one.

Ok so those bayonets are terrible thanks for the advice.

I don't mind the one in Seven Hills but my girlfriend will absolutely destroy me if I have those ceramics sitting on top of the enclosure.

Would I be able to remove the mesh and source some clip ceramic lamps to sit inside the hood? That would be better for the UVB since they need no more than 30 cm from the light?

Keep shooting ideas my way :)

Ok, if you did get the raw pine one you will need to paint it with a water resistant type of paint or similar to protect the wood. With the lighting thing you would be able to get a hanging ceramic es fitting and have it wired and then supply your bearded dragons with a basking shelf to get them closer to the light.
With the black melamine one you would use the bayonet fittings for light (you will have issues sourcing bayonet reptile bulbs) and the es fitting for a heat bulb (MVB or similar). I think it's a little silly that both the bayonet fittings are on a thermostat, i would change this or have someone change it for you.

If you can spare time to research things a bit broader than e-bay then i'm sure you could find someone on here even that can build you one and fit it out properly for you. Maybe start a thread asking if anyone in Sydney can build you one properly or use google and search for websites in australia. You could even find plans on google and ask a kitchen place to cut the melamine for you and then you could build it yourself and fit it out properly.

Thanks for the info guys :)

I'll broaden my search of the interwebs and try and source some freelance carpenters.

Or you could contact Snake Whisperer, not sure where he is or how much freight would be though. There are plenty out there if you look, as i said maybe put up a thread asking if anyone knows of someone in Sydney.

I'd be careful with anything that has bayonet fittings as they limit the globes you can purchase. Mine had 3 bayonet fittings and i used an adaptor to chang to screw in.. 3 adaptor blew in a 2 week period and l had to replace lights as well.
I ended up getting the bayonet fittings changed to screw (es) removed 1 and installed a fluro tube. i also had all 3 running thru thermostat, took fluro off and basking off so only the heat source runs thru therm.. Much better.

View attachment 210817Could make your own out of old cupboards and low boy cupboards and more. Bit of cutting glassing here and there. Save lots. $20 on ebay for a good heating mat. Good light. I've set this one up so it can be added to as a play area. And closed of sections.
