Hi, am a newbie to this web site, and fairly new with snakes, I got my snake in October 2008, he is a 3 year old Childrens python, but I am not sure how to tell the difference between male and female with snakes, can some one tell me how, or should I post a pic on here so someone can say what he is? Sorry for seeming ignorant, or if this is a dumb question.
pls help!

take it to your nearest reptile vet , they will sex it [ probe it] for u .

Hi Newbie

The tricky thing with snakes is that you can't tell what sex it is by it's apperance. Some people might be able to have a good guess but the only sure way is to have a Vet or someone with experience probe it ( stick a metal spike with a blunt end ) into it's cloaca ( bum ) and the depth it goes in will determine the sex. DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF. If done wrong you can damage the snake. Get the experienced person to teach you so you can do it yourself next time.

Good Luck.

take to a exp herp vet is your best bet need to be probed to be 110%sure dont attempt doing this from a youtube clip you can harm the snake, but as other have answered you cant be accurate with just looking....

you might be able to find a very exp breeder/herper on here that may be able to probe for you at a cost
