I have had a Harley for some time now and have had dirt bikes a lot in my teens and early twenties and ridden the occasional sport bike over the years but I am looking at getting a 600 sport bike and was after opinions. I am probably looking around 2008 - 2010 year range.
Cheers
Andy

I have a Ducati 600 Supersport. It's a bit older - 1997 model - but the new ones are sooo awesome :) I defs recommend having a look at one.

I love the sound of a Ducatti and liked the naked look of the Monster 996 but have narrowed my choices down to either an R6 or GSXR600.

Don't sell the Harley. Now that I've gotten that out of the way.... I currently have a Suzuki SV1000S vtwin so like the harley very usable power. If you really want to go a 600 they do a SV650S. But take it from me you might wish for the extra power if you get a 600. A vtwin 1000 lets you take it easy if your not in the mood or if you wanna move has the ability to. My previous comment re dont sell the harley is because I have always had cruisers.. vstar650, vstar 1300, triumph rocket III. Decided to get a sports bike before getting to old and have regretted it ever since. Nothing against sports bikes and the SV is great when im up for some stress relief but I cant do the 400km rides on the SV.

I'm a fan of the dukes nice ride lawra

Dukes sound nice but if you like doing distances they're mongrels, unless you're built like an ape - long arms & short legs :). I have a friend in his 30s, super fit surfer, who had a Monster Testastretta S4, but even he could only do about 250 km without being crippled for hours. I've had a long association with Duke fans, and largely they all say the same.

I like being able to do 1000km a day if I need to, and occasionally do Sydney & return day from Port Macquarie without dramas. I've always liked BMWs, though not a fan of the boxers. My current ride, a K1300S, is a truly remarkable machine. I'd definitely ask for an extended test ride of whatever you're looking at (may not be possible with a private sale of course) to make sure the man fits the bike - comfortable seat, weight on wrists etc... May not be important for a local commute though. Try and get something with ABS brakes though - it may just save your life!

I've heard that too, but I'm only a learner so I've only done 100km in one go.

Since you've narrowed it down, I think you can't go wrong with either. The first bike I ever got onto (the back of) was an R1 so I've got a bit of a soft spot for them.

Are Harleys comfortable? Another guy at work has a huge 1600cc Kawasaki chopper, the seat looks comfier than my sofa.

I have what they call a king and queen seat on mine and it is comfortable but without a windshield you feel it on long rides. My Harley is 1584cc and it has had S&S 585 gear drive cams , high flow air filter , power commander ECU and V&H big radius pipes.

V&H big radius pipes.

Ive had the V&H short shots, do people need to speak to you really loudly to communicate now:D Im sure the short shots are what have made my hearing ordinary. Ps. Im yet to see a better pic of your Harley mate, from your Avatar is it a Fatboy???

Ive had an 09 gsxr600 and couldnt fault it! Never had any problems.
Currently on a R6 and would swap it back for the gixxa anyday!!!!
All similar nowdays - its more about comfortablilty on longer rides.... go out and test ride to find out what works best for you!!
