hi guys i recieved a 8 month old hatchling python yesterday from a lovely breeder and about an hour after the little fella was dropped off i found him dead :( we dont know the cause but the breeder is looking to replace him for me.
i was just wondering what do i put in my book. do i write it all in and then put dead or do i send off the paperwork or what im not sure as this has never happened to me?

Someone has to write it up as dead, because the transaction has already gone through then you really are the one obligede to do it.

I would imagine if the breeder is going to replace it, then they should probably put it down as their death, not yours, considering the short time span. A lot less paperwork to fill out, and still only the one transaction is required. Simple. That's what I would do anyway. Just ask them if that's ok.

i just spoke to her and she is willing to write it up as her death. i was very upset but she is being very nice about the situation and i am getting a replacement today.

Id be very concerned that a snake you had for an hour died. Didnt the seller realise it was sick? Sounds pretty dodgy to me and Id be concerned bringing another reptile from the same source into the collection. Diseases like OPMV for example have the potential to wipe out your whole collection.

Such a sad thing to have happen, but as Colin mentioned, id be very cautious before taking a second, im sure an 8mnth old doesnt just die for no reason..... I do hope though, whatever you decide, it works out for the best!

Encephalitis is one disease that will knock off a snake that looks healthy. It well may have absolutely nothing to do with the breeder or his collection, and that was a snake with a ticking time bomb, just like some humans.

we worked it out that it might have been the three hour drive in the heat that cause it to die. i am keeping the new one away from my collection until im sure its ok. thanks everyone for your comments
