Well I've finally got the medicine from the UK to battle my Leishmaniasis. It's an injection in each bum cheek every day for 28 days. The injection is Sodium Stibogluconate. The way I understand it, is That my kidneys take this in and break it up. It all is past out of the system but it puts back into the body antimony. (Ihaven't heard of this before, a heavymetal) The antimony builds up in my system until the (hopefully) the bugs is all dead.

I'm startin to upload a album to show you how fast it grew. Just a warning for Basketcase (who leaves for the amazon in a week) to keep those bugs away.

RE: What

cool!
hope it gets better soon

:p

hope you get rid of it soon matey

LMAO  GOOD ONE BYRONY!

Yeah - very fast, Chewy. If I remember rightly, antimony is toxic in large amounts... :(

Hix

Thanks for that Hix, I do know that I'm getting 850mg per day. Since I've had 11 days so far, only 17 to go. There are heaps of lesion on my arm, two have ruptured. The good news is that it looks like there may be a small amount of new skin inside the large lesion on my hand. On the mend...hopefully. :D

what the F#ck happened mate? hope all goes well.

Chewy thats crazy dude, i just checked out the pics.

Hope the medicine gets rid of it for ya mate. Speedy recovery!!

Cheers, Alan.

Leish is a protozoan. It lives in the armadillos and monkeys. There are these small, yellow, nocturnal sandflies that are able to transmit these buggers with their bite. They say 1 in 10,000 of the sandflies are infected. With those odds, I can rule out winning the lotto.
Good news is mosquitos can't transmit it, so I'm not contagious here in Oz.

where did you go to get this bite of a sandfly (im assuming an armadillo or a monkey didnt bite you here)? hope it all works out mate

I did 3 months herpetology in the amazon. Basetcase is doing the same thing, he leaves in a week. It was with a group called Fauna Forever. Afro was the man who put me onto them. He posted a link to their site on here about a year ago. Very well worth it.
It was studying species nummbers and the impact tourism has on these animals.
The study runs every five years or so, to get an idea if the populations are changing due to increased ecotourism.

Well that part about getting used to the pain is wearing off and there is some arthritis developing in my hips and back, (a listed side effect) but the good news is that the big hole looks to be smaller. The ones on my arm haven't changed, but thinking of getting them lanced tomorrow so I can clean the junk out of them. Getting better soon. Will add some updated pics.
Cheers
