At what point does a gravid female really begin to show (swell)? My Bredli hasn't eaten for the winter/spring period and is looking fairly well conditioned considering this. She will slough in about 5 days by my reckoning, but does not look enormously fat. I also have not seen her basking upside down. She mated numerous times with a male that has successfully bred with her in the past (previous owner).

Thoughts?

Surely someone has an opinion, or some knowledge?

My intergrade girl never goes belly up, nor does she ever look bigger than normal. Twice I've bred her, and both times I really believed I wasn't going to get any eggs but surprise, she did me proud both times. Looking for the signs and not seeing anything can give you false sense of disappointment, so just wait it out and see what happens.

Hi garthy, going off my notes from last season our bredli had her pre lay on the 8/12 & layed on the 6/1. She wasn't noticably gravid until after her pre lay & then it was fairly obvious so i'd say all is ok. That same female is about to have a pre lay shed any day:)

Thanks for the replies.
She sloughed the following day (27th of Nov, shows how good my judgement was) and she is now spending about 80% of the time belly up. She has swollen considerably. I am over the moon. By averages I'm thinking lay day on Christmas or Boxing day.

Yay, good luck garthy:)
My girl had her pre-lay on the 4th so I was close ;)
