Im with Supagas- a 10kg bottle costs $150 a year for rental and $70 every two years to fill up. Seems a little expensive but i know i wont run out just before a gas down is needed.

Yea, thats why I had to get the second machine..... was 3/4 the way thru a bunch of rats and went to woolies and they didnt have a replacement canister

So I always have a spare full bottle before I start and they are the bigger bottles..... havent had to change one in the last couple of months ;)

You could try making your own CO2 by mixing Vinegar and Baking soda.

I have seen a couple of web pages dedicated to home made contraptions for killing rats and mice.

Check out this site for a home made chamber - Small Animal Euthanasia at Home

The main reason I dont go for home made gas concoctions, is that co2 in the soda stream canister, is fit for human consumption. I know it wont harm my snakes by feeding rats euthanased with a gas I know nothing about, or made myself from an internet recipe.

This is just my own opinion tho.... I am sure it prolly works fine.;)

You could just drink the beer..... then breathe out into a tub with rats in it.... that oughta kill them

or if I share the beer with them they may gas themselves in tight quarters....

Seriously though if timed right you could probably use the bubbler off the brewer during times of brew. Would just need to work out the flow, which is definitely slow enough to be gentle. Then again most brewers use the co2 method anyway.
