hi, I am baffled as to the wet strip of brown fluid between my 2-3yr old carpet pythons eyes. There is no sign of fluid around nostrils, or mouth. have also noticed lately he has been hissing when holding him..he doesn't seem stressed or anything..is this normal? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated..if i can figure out how to post a photo up(providing i can get a clear one) I will do asap
Thanks,
Kerina

hey, it could be a respritory infection (never had that problem with my snakes so am just guessing)

what are its hot end and cool end temps? has it eaten recently? when did it last shed?

is the skin damaged? (weepy?)
if you wipe it off does it come back?
could she have done a dirty big poo/wee on some furniture and slid under it getting some remanents on her nose?

her breathing sounds fine?

Hi, day temp is between , 29-32deg, night temp is usually around 26deg. We did have a couple of day over xmas with no heat lamp...as it blew..couldn't get one for a couple days, as everything was closed! he had a feed on sunday...my hubby feeds him once a week, which i think is too much? he last shed about 2-3 wks ago...only other thing is about 2 months ago, he went feral when we were holding him (first time ever!) i didnt know what to do, so my 13yo nephew came around to catch him and put him back..when doing so he grabbed him around the head very quickly and hard, so he wouldn't bite. but i doubt after 2months there would be a prob from that?! What would i do for a resp infection?

I would go with chris first and get some tissue, paper towel etc and wipe it off then see if it comes back. The hissing could be completely unrelated to the brown fluid so start simple and go from there

I haven't tried wiping yet, but my son has just told me he has a bit of fluid around his nostrils and mouth now...apart from the hissing sound every now and again his breathing sounds fine. Thanks, i will attempt to take a pic now, and see how i go :)

have re-checked him while taking the pic, he doesn't have fluid around mouth and nostrils like my son said. too wimpy i'm gonna hurt him to wipe him as of yet...will get the hubby to do it tonight and see then..meanwhile here is a pic..thanks guys
