THE remains of a woman have been found sitting in front of her TV - 42 years after she was reported missing.

Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, had apparently made herself a cup of tea before sitting in her favourite armchair in front of her black and white television.

Croatian police said she was last seen by neighbours in 1966, when she would have been 42 years old.

Her neighbours thought she had moved out of her flat in the capital, Zagreb.

But she was found by police and bailiffs who had broken in to help the authorities establish who owned the flat.

A police spokesman said: "So far, we have no idea how it is possible that someone officially reported missing so long ago was not found before in the same apartment she used to live in.

"When officers went there, they said it was like stepping into a place frozen in time.

"The cup she had been drinking tea from was still on a table next to the chair she had been sitting in and the house was full of things no one had seen for decades. Nothing had been disturbed for decades, even though there were more than a few cobwebs in there."

Neighbours were shocked by the discovery.

Jadranka Markic was nine when Hedviga "vanished".

She said: "I still remember her. She was a quiet woman who kept herself to herself but was polite. We all thought that she had just moved out and gone to live with relatives."

was the TV still on?
lol Either the TV was showing static of not showing a signal, or her electricity was cut off.

That would make a great ad for Sony.
"After 42 years this TV is still functioning perfectly"

"This TV is over 40 years old. Too bad the owner didn't last as long"

What is more mysterious from the apartment itself, which “guarded” the dead body of Hedviga Golik, is the writing on the door, written with a marker, banning others from breaking into the apartment and entering it, signed by the Zagreb Commission for Census. The neighbours say they know nothing about the matter.

Thats just ridiculous......

Wouldnt the body Smell???

Wouldnt the neighbours have noticed that no one was going in and out anymore...???

Wouldnt the male have been just starting to pile up?? Especially Notices regarding Electricity and other bills not being payed...???

Didnt she have any family or firends that used to visit her???

That is just a disgrace to the neighbourhood she lives in that none of the people near here realised anything.....

Ditto...
I wonder if she rotted away or if bugs ate her.. YUCK.
And I wonder if they could tell what the cause of death was after 42 years..

Television programming does have that impact on me sometimes.... But I doubt it would take my creditors that long to find me, one missed payment and they would be knocking down the door.....

The door is sealed from the outside by Zagreb Commission for Census but they don't own it or have any record of it.
I'm no detective but ...............

I find it strange that if she was reported missing wouldn't the house be the first place they looked? Or did they just do a lame knock at the door, no answer, oh well she musn't be in there! How ridiculous. If they knew she lived on her own the first thing you would do is break in and look for her in the house. I also like how it's taken them 42 years to decide to do something about finding out who owns the house!

I 100% believe the story.

If you read the story there's heaps of theories. One is that she was last seen with two religious sect members, and it was assumed she left with them.
A window was open inside, helping to reduce the smell.
She was "an introvert who never socialised with anyone and probably suffered from a psychic disorder."
The other tenants had been paying rent and utilities, so maybe the TV was still going 0.0

Oh and nuthn2do, the door wasn't sealed by the Census dept., that was from the police, I believe. The equivalent of police tape we have here, or the page thingo they stick on doors to make sure no one has entered the premises.

thats gross. but it messes with your mind
i cant stop thinking how she and her apartment could go untouched for so long !!!!!
