hello Aussie herp keepers. I was wondering about the legalities of keeping reptiles in Australia?
Legal to keep most species if you have the appropriate licence & experience.
Legal to keep most species if you have the appropriate licence & experience.
How did you assume that ?But it differs dramatically from state to state and zero exotics across the board. I assume you are moving here- to which state?
How did you assume that ?
How do you not?
Otherwise what's the point of asking?![]()
He might just be curious?![]()
Damn I feel luckey not to have limitations like this. The only herps i am not alloud to keep is of course certin c.i.t.e.s animals and non native venomus reptiles. Although im in the process of completeing my 1000 hours experince so i can keep non native vipers. I cant wait. Is it hard/expensive to get the proper licences in order for you guys to keep herps?
It must be hard to see all the diffrent types of reptiles and not to be able to keep them. Unles you jump through some major hoops. I'm sorry if I come off sounding like I'm rubbing my gift(the keeping of non native herps) in, I have taken it for granted for so long. I'd hate not being able to keep non natives. It's actually quite restrictive compared to the states.
- Zero exotics at all, period. It's flat out illegal to possess an exotic animal
- Venomous snakes require some significant licensing in nsw (and in most other states except tasmania from memory)
I can't argue with you about Australia haveing the best pythons, and some of the best geckos as well.I not long got back from Orange County.. Love how you can take your reptiles for a walk there. They encourage taking them to petsmart, Some nice pets there you can all keep. Still our Pythons are best looking.
well some exotics are nice i dont really care that i cant keep them mainly because like you say we have the best, and im in nsw so our laws are pretty good here and we have a good species list imo , those hoops you speak of pretty much involve having your own zoo as far as i know so not many people can legally have themIt must be hard to see all the diffrent types of reptiles and not to be able to keep them. this is all we can keep in Tasmania

Although im in the process of completeing my 1000 hours experince so i can keep non native vipers. I cant wait.,,,,, Does this sound like someone who is leaving the states? geees you guys would make lousy detectives !From reading his intro thread my guess is this is the likely scenario.
I wouldent give my animals for the world. They are my pride and joys. I have worked far to hard to to build my collection to give it up.would you give up all your other herps though?
