Thanks for the replies.
Fuscus, i have posed several and they do ride the hook reasonably well but tend to flatten out into a defensive posture when positioned etc. Given a minute or so they calm down and can be photographed well.
Craig, yeah i think they will be a little boring too, but i love the pattern. I am really looking forward to persuading Rach about the tigers next year. I saw one at dwellingup last year and it was the most striking snake. I watched it for ages before i could tear myself away.

Hmmm... according to Jimmy it was great. He was walking towards the tiger and I was walking away from it very fast. Will take a lot of convincing for them to be in my house. Rach

For me, part of the appeal of adders is that they'll often sit motionless for days, just waiting. They're perfectly still but you know that the whole time they're ready for action. The caudal luring is a huge part of the appeal for me, I often tease the poor things by waving a mouse or rat around just outside their striking range for a while to make them lure frantically. Barkly adders are supposedly the fastest strikers, I don't know about that for sure, but my female barkly strikes faster than any other snake I've seen, it's really amazing when she does a particularly fast one, you see her sitting there luring away but otherwise perfectly still, you feel the tongs move and at the same instant the snake has grabbed the rodent, you can't see anything in between, really amazing.

Adders are so different from any other Australian snake and in my opinion hugely appealing in many many ways. They have a very distinctive way of feeding and very distinctive appearance. If I could only keep one type of Australian snake it would almost certainly be adders.

Those wellsi are really different from other adders, very interesting. I'll have to get some one day, up until recently the only way to do it was illegal (which didn't stop a few keepers here in Melbourne  ) It's great to see them coming into the legitimate trade.

Oh yeah, and as others said it's pretty easy to sex adders from a couple of metres or with a sheet of glass between you and them, even as juveniles. You can even practise your adder sexing by looking at photos!

Congratulations on deciding to get adders, I'm sure you'll find it hugely rewarding :D

So how many wellsii do you think are currently outside WA, red and black's and pale banded?

hey womas how much will you be selling them for? the red and blacks
