Hi everyone,

For the past 4 months, I have been looking for a job. I have applied to over 50 different places & ads, on Seek, CareerOne and even going in person to the companies - all to no avail. :(:?

I have Cystic Fibrosis, and in saying that, I am admitted to hospital every 4-6 weeks for two weeks at a time.
When I am able to work, I do my best and I am very reliable.

I was just wondering - is there anyone out there willing to hire a young reliable & willing to work female?! Honestly, I am willing to do almost anything (no 'adult' work, and I can't work with plants/fertilizer because of my health)

I do have my own car, and I am willing to travel maximum 40 mins to a job. I am only able to work a maximum of 15hrs a week because of centerlink reasons and doctor ruling.

Attached is my resume* for anyone to pass on to maybe employers.

Thank you for reading, and I hope anyone can help :)

Tameah.

*note - I have taken out my full name, address and mobile number for privacy reasons. feel free to pm me or email me for my contact details if you are/know someone who's serious about hiring me.View attachment Tameah resume APS copy.pdf

Tameah,

Ive found those websites like seek etc are useless.. ive applied for some jobs through them before and you hear nothing back..ever..

The best way is to go in person to places, drop in your resume and chat to the people..your young so you shouldnt have too much trouble! If you have a big shopping centre near you, head there and do the rounds of all the shops , subway, boost juice, wendys etc

Hey Sel,

Yeah, I've been doing that also, but no-one in my area are hiring >.<
I've also done the shop rounds but even most of those aren't hiring. A few have even told me they're only looking for 'juniors' and because I'm almost 19, they don't class me as a 'junior' anymore o_O got to love how they try and save money anywhere possible. Here's someone willing to work and they wont hire because they'd rather have 'bimbos' working there because they're cheaper to hire!! (no offence to anyone who works in retail/food places)

I'll keep looking around, it's getting fairly frustrating now, especially when I'm beyond broke & the bills keep coming in :/

Could try registering with Smart Jobs, seems like a pun for a govt job site, govt can't discriminate when hiring

you could apply to be a delivery driver for a pizza place? they are always looking for people and its around 15hrs of work a week

There should be no discrimination in the workplace. It breaches the anti discrimination act as well as oh&s safety act. Unfortunately it does happen. Government departments are more accountable for treating everyone fairly. Trust me I work for NSW state transport. In every job application/interview it is a requirement to have an understanding of EEO.

I work for Qld Govt,if I listed the people at work against things that could disqualify people we would have approx 30% of people leave the campus

My line of work focuses on assisting people with injuries/disabilities in getting work. While I know you weren't asking for for any advice, let me know if you're interested and I'd suggest several changes to your resume. To be blunt, I would not apply for jobs through seek etc with that resume, it wouldn't be effective.

Tameah,

Seek etc are normally only effective if you stand out with your experience. Entry level positions are next to impossible unless you put more work into your application than the other guy, but if you're experienced you can have an interview scheduled an hour after the job gets posted.

Technically correct. In reality however, governments are the most discriminatory hirers there are. Their application processes generally are quite detailed and they'll pick up things private employers won't

Might be an idea to speak with a recruiting firm; they have the knowledge and the contacts to get you a role. Failing that, you might to switch from looking for full time work to working as a temp. and with help from the recruiting company they could ensure you aren't booked anywhere for the 2 weeks you are off. You would be able to build up your CV with numerous other skills, as chances are you will receive on the job training and you can learn by rote that can be applied elsewhere

Nathan_T it is a good point to a certain extent. The last Couple of jobs I have applied for within railcorp. You need to have a really good resume, then in your application you are required to address all the essential critera. My last application was 6 pages long. The position was for a fitter machinist not a English teacher so a little over the top.
The worst thing about government positions is the time it takes. Last time took 5 months before I had the interview.

Be very careful with this. The purpose of a recruiting company is to make money. In order to do that they generally need to place you in a role for 3 months. If you attempt to apply for a full time permanent position with them and they find out about your health issues, you may end up blacklisted by the company. Going the temporary route is a much better idea, as you can be open about your requirements and your recruiter will thank you for it.

Fun story, I helped a worker apply for work as a cleaner in a government department last week. Took me 2 hours to write the application and came in at around 6 pages.

I just got a job with nsw parks and wildlife, I applied over 6 months ago and the resume was 7 pages. During that same time I applied for over 30 truck driving jobs and didn't get 1, go figure......

Well done. What are you doing with NSW Parks and Wildlife?

I hate applying for government jobs. It takes forever to do the applications with small chance of success. The selection criteria statement stumps me every time.
