I hate cats as much as anyone, believe me, but stirring that sort of trouble hurts as very badly. Cat people have far more voice than reptile people. If we upset them publicly, it hurts us. Reptile keeping has been banned in some parts of the world, because public opinion of reptiles and their keepers is bad; we don't want to look like savage inhumane children of unmarried people. Kill all the cats you want, I'll applaud you, but we as a community need to be tactful. This type of publicity will only make the restrictions on us tighter and puts the very existance of our hobby at risk. Groups such as the RSPCA are already trying to ban us from keeping reptiles at all.

Oh, and yes, they're excellent snake food, great on the BBQ for people too, just ask your nearest chinaman. (no offence indended to any chinamen present, on the contrary, it is intended as a compliment :lol: ).

Your right there Sdaji. Cats actually taste OK, dog is better IMO but its all in the preparation and age of the animal.

Whilst in the navy i tasted these both freshly cooked on a thai trawler we had caught fishing illeglly in aust waters. The trawler had several of both on board for that purpose.

Aparantly Guinea Pigs are not the best food, alot of hair and a bit more fatty. And I agree with Sdaji, it may be funny but it just enforces hatred to snakes and the like.

Yes, Sdaji i see where ur coming from, and i was going to add that cats are also one of my fave animals and that was the reason why Id prefer to stick with feeding snakes rats, but like I said thats only my personal opinion. I wouldn't reccommend feeding cats to snakes just cos i love the animal, not because of any health probs in feeding them to snakes...like i said, its just a personal thing

No offence, but that's like saying ' I don't reccommend you get a pet snake because I think their icky', what you should have said is you personally don't like it happening.

Cats would be great as food for snakes, but I don't want to offend the ignorent type of people who praise the killers of all animals because they are a majority. ("MY CAT DOESNT KILL ANIMALS" AKA supid cat owner) :roll:

If you do use them for a good feed for ya snakes/monitors, make sure they are healthy and of corse wormed, & keep it quiet, even to other Herpers.

I love grasshoppers. When people feed grasshoppers to lizards, it upsets me as much as feeding a cat to a snake would upset a cat lover (yes, I know that might sound stupid, but I live and breathe grasshoppers, so there you go). I don't know of any almightly power which put each species of animal into a rank of "value" or "right to live" and so I never say boo about people feeding off grasshoppers, as much as it breaks my heart. There are certain animals I choose never to eat or feed to my reptiles, but I just quietly go about my business and let others do the same. Some of my spearfishing trips get interesting, some members of the group have different favourite creatures, and we often ask each other not to take them (for example, I will never take octopi and get very upset when other people kill them). For a while I respected the other members in this way and wouldn't take their favourite animals, but when they started killing octopi in front of me, I started eating their favourite species of crabs and fish

It's a case of each to their own, and it's important for us all to remember not to enforce our personal sillyness on others. I wouldn't recommend feeding grasshoppers to animals, but I wouldn't try to make anyone feel guilty about it either, same with octopi, as difficult as it is for me to accept.

Not having a go at you at all, Thalia, just rambling on. I admire your ability to see the situation rationally.
