I have a converted shop counter that has been made into a four-bank enclosure. The rear wall of the lower two enclosures are bare particle board. The stuff looks horrible, and I would like to know what would be the best (and safest) stuff to paint over it to seal it. Looks too tricky to stick on laminate, and would like to seal the surface for hygiene reasons (and aethetics). Will put a decent backing on once I decide what to get later on. Any advice?

the most non toxic stuff you can find. is it possible to screw a better looking piece of timer over top of it then seal it?

I think Dulux Weather Shield, Garden Shades is the best paint for sealing bare wood and is also great on polystyrene I shape for hides and water bowls. It is a self priming low sheen acrylic and comes in some nice natural colours.

Wattyl Solagard Gloss is great - need a few coats though, but you don't need primer etc.
