dont know anything about geckos,... but bunnings sell nice washed play sand for $5 a bag, just to make it easier! :)

from what i've read sand seems like a commonly used substrate, so it should be fine.

i always sift the sand as i'm putting it in the enclosures,...

i use reptile sand from petshops or the cleaned sand from bunnings in my gecko tank. don't use beach sand though it has salt in it that even after washing tends to remain in quite high levels this can be quite bad for your geckos health. you also don't knwo what kind of chemicals it may have been exposed to such as tings washing in with the water and from nearby bodies of soil.

Ok thanks heaps for that guys.... just wanted to clear that up lol I just have a fairly big tank and my Local pet shop only sells 5kg bags so i'd have to buy about a million of them lol, The sand from bunnings sounds like the way to go.... Thanks again

I used washed 'Botany Bay sand' with no problems. Its very clean, white and fine. I get it from Flower Power.

I don't keep Geckos but use 'Botany Bay' sand for my Ackie and will use it for any further reptiles kept on a sand substrate - I get mine from my local nursery $4for a 5kg bag or $13 for 4...

I found the reptile sand from pet stores was expensive and had a lot of foreign items in it (kept finding bits that kinda looked like tiny pieces of al-foil)...
