Hi

I have had my bearded dragons for around a month.

I have a pair around 1 year old- a boy and a girl.

I put them together today, and the boy is displaying all signs of mating, - the one arm waving, climbing on top, biting back of neck etc

The female is not struggling, but is now mimicking the arm waving.

is it possible they can breed at this age- they are quite large for a year old, and I am wondering whether they can breed already, or if they are older, as there was not much info given when I bought them.

They are not fighting, so I think the female is def female.

But they are def mating today...

Any suggestions:

could they be older than first thought ?

Can they breed at a year old ?

Why is the female mimicking the male ?

thank you

I read in the bearded dragon manual that Arm waving is usually a bearded dragon saying "Hello I'm a bearded dragon" or "please don't eat me." :D

Yes they can breed at one year old, the female slowly waving her arms is showing that she is submissive.

My girls are a year old - one of them has filled the incubator already with about 55 eggs so they can definitely breed at that age.....

One bearded dragon has filled the incubator with 55 eggs. How many over each clutch?

I'd suggest you get ready for eggs because if they are mating then she will most likely lay & as becs & morgan dragon said it's definately possible at 12 months old. If you don't want to incubate the eggs then don't, but be sure to dispose of them carefully;) She will probably lay in roughly 21-28 days.

It would be hard to say if they are older than first thought, but beardies can definitely breed from 12 months old. Arm waving = submission, fast head-bobbing = domination. Yes, if you want to breed them i'd get well prepared for eggs, if not, probably best to separate the dragons.

This boy is now following me around the room by sight giving me the head bob...

it's ok mate, she is all yours

lol, he thinks your his competition ;)

mine arent doing that yet, but there both female bout 18mth, a mates male is a head bobber when he sees anyone near his cage but get him out and he is a brick, just sits on your lap, and isnt cage defensive, my two get startled and hiss if they dont see you before you get them out but i can walk them around the streets on my shoulder, im gonna put my mates male over my 2 femalesat the end of the year...hopefully

My male is 6mths old.couldn't find a female to grow up with him as company and a mate,or i didn't want to pay $160 for one.so i went out and have bought 3 little bubbies, hopefully i will get at least 2 girls for squish.he is at the whole black beard and head bobbing stage,he waves his arm at me all the time and i wave back.all 3 bubs do the wave at everyone game....soooo cute.can't wait to see if i have a few girls,at least one for squish's sake.

yoda doesnt wave at all :( he will occasionally bob his head but its lightening fast

Have spent a bit of time last night watching the 3 bubs.i wonder at what age they begin to display their sexes thru body language.we have one who is slightly larger than the other 2,he is the arm waving and head bobbing one.the other two i have only seen arm waving.all 3 were purchased around the same time and were the same size.all 3 were 3wks old when we got them home so they would be about 8wks now.is this to young to be displays of sexual development?

way too young to tell , even the head bobing and arm wave isnt a 100% determaning sex .. my males wave some times , and my female is the same.

Thought someone might say that.so even reading the body languge of the bubs you still can't really tell.well i will just let them keep growing and im gonna keep hoping.
