hey guys,

what's the simple set-up req for a beardie?

Thinking of getting one

I have a fish tank i'm going to convert for it (which is big enough i think).
but things like substrate, heat lamp, hides etc...
is it pretty much the same as a python set up?

thanks
=)

u'll need a UV light an a heat light an just use reptile sand an a hollaw log or something like that as a hide

simple setup requirements are a basking site that reaches 38-43C
the prefer bright cages so use reflector globes rather than red lights of CHE's
(coles sell reflector globes fr $2.35)
8% or higher UV tube.
substrates are highly debateable,...for young beardys somethign that cant be ingested like tiles, newspaper, loop free carpet, lino, 4 older beardys washed playsand/red desert sand
no calcium fortified sands cos that encourages them to eat it.
no pebbles or crushed walnut or clumping kitty litter cos that WILL cause impactions.
recommended cage size is 4x2 x2 foot per adult.

caves and vines are a nice addition,..so yeah, similar to a python.

heres a pic of my beardy setup, well, in 2 halves,....

i'm just keeping my beardies in large plastic tubs out doors so they get plenty of uv, when they are bigger will be going into an avairy

awesome!
thanks!

the tank i have is big enough. :)
i figured it'd be similar the a python set-up.

i use a 4 foot tank, with a heat mat underneath hooled up to a thermostat.
i have a UVB fluro, and a 75watt red basking/heat lamp.
i use marine carpet as a substrate.
i have no hides, per se. i was told it just helps the food hide more than anything...
but i have a few branches and things laying across each other where they can hide a bit... but the crickets can't hide from the beardies in.
