Beardie Substrate?

Hello all,

Whats a good beardie substrate? I know that sand is good for later years, but I'm getting a hatchie! Newspaper dyes their feet black, so other than that, whats a good one other than newspaper? I was thinking tiles, but I don't know where to get any!:x

Newspaper won't hurt them. Ink is waterbased these days and non-toxic. But if you don't like the dirty feet go for carpet. It looks nice. Tiles you can get from any tiling place, most hardware stores like bunnings would have some.

We used carpet when Phoenix was a baby, now she has a little bit of red sand but still half her tank is carpet.

I just use some fake grass every week you can just take it and hose it down and just put t it back into the tank.

you can always use butcher paper. its like newspaper but with out the ink. tiles is prob not the best idea, too slippery.

not if you get textured glazed ones.

the black ink in newspapers is vegetable based, the reds and colours is what you need to worry about.

Fake grass in my opinion. Used it for my beardies - had 2 pieces. Changed once a week - just hose it down and put the other piece in while the first one dries.

I use paper towel. I find it good for the baby cos if I lay individual pieces then I just take out the piece that he dirtys and replace it. It absorbs really well. He can also clearly see crickets on it.

Go the fake grass! Looks good, easy to clean, pretty cheap...

And my baby loves it, nice and grippy.

Tiles are great.. But I use those leaflets like WOW and coles (junk mail) for the bottom of hatchies
