As a stay at home dad, I see the reason for this sort of behavior all the time. Mums grabbing kids away from me if I pick them up after a fall at play group, overheard conversations about how they tell their kids to stay away from me or how I scare them. And these are women I know and have seen at least weekly for over a year. I still try and help, but it does make it hard at the end of the day.
There is also the problem that an accusation of sexual assault is guilty for life. It ruins careers and lives.

that must make you very sad :( I'm very sorry for you :(

Wow...what the hell is wrong with people in this day and age?

If i see anyone in trouble and think i can help i'll do my best or make sure someone helps the person out be it a child, women, elderly...whatever....

I'm so glad i don't live in the big smoke...stories like these really make me angry

Gee this thread makes me even more glad we live away from the city. I recently had to walk around on crutches for a few weeks and I had people hold doors open for me, offer to help carry shopping to the car, offer me a chair so I could sit down for a rest and I was amazed at how many people offered to help. It's a shame people aren't like this everywhere.

I hear ya mags, I get the same kind of treatment at my kids' school still, after 6 yrs! most of the parents/mothers know us , but mothers of kindys etc, are a different story. A father at a school seems to frowned apon, so much for equality of the sexs . A new rule has just been implimented at my daughter's school. No videoing or photographing, school plays etc etc, any father videoing his kid dancing etc, MUST be a perv ! Pretty sad eh. Now they are offering to sell parents video taken by a proffessional instead. (fees of all kinds never cease!)

I've had nasty looks and been told off for talking to kids, I'd hate to think of what might happen if I made physical contact with one! I must admit, I'd be reluctant to help a little kid who was hurt, for fear of getting into trouble.

want to know something funny?

i was doing work as a party host at a place called clown town
this is a place just for kids, parents sit and drink coffee.

now as an employee i supervise the party and thats it, it states clearly that your child is your resposibility........
with these parents....yeah right, one kid get his leg stuck in the ropes and was balling his little eyes out, so the frantic mum halls ass up the 3 story structure, pushing past all sorts of children to get to her own........
now.......she got lost in the structure so i had to go up and rescue her, then had to go up and rescue the kid.

You would of thought she was happy to have her kid safe and sound wouldn't you?

well no she yelled at me for letting HER child up there, then was yelling at me cause she got stuck up there and she hurt her hand on the way down. (wuss)
mean while all these other parents are comming up to me saying that that mother just smaked their child in to parts of the structure and had hurt themselves.......

stupid mother who didn't read the sign saying "No kids under 5 allowed" and "your child is your resposibility" tried to get me fired and to sue clown town.

If someone is in trouble, I will help them. I dont really care if I get dirty looks, and blamed for sexual harrassment, if I know what I did was right then I am happy. I really dont care what people think of me either! their problem, not mine.

For instance - On our year 7 camp parents were invited. We were all swimming in a large water hole. This one guy (Jeff) began to thrash around etc.. He had a cramp and couldnt swim. So I began to help him by dragging him to shore. His mum thought I was trying to push him under water.... Which I wasnt, I was sent home and suspended from school for 10 days. I WOULD do it again, because I know what I did was right!

People always want to blame someone else. It's almost at the stage where people expect to live in a world where it's impossible to be able to hurt yourself or even get sad, even if you try. And if someone else fails to prevent you from coming upon some misfortune, even trivial, you can get sued. Bah! people suck.
I saw on the telly a couple of weeks ago, a guy who jumped off a cliff and broke his neck, leaving him paralised. He sued because there wasn't a sign warning that it might be dangerous to jump off the cliff.
We've all heard a million stories, many even more ridiculous.

I used to think like that, until I heard of people losing their jobs, being imprisoned etc on false accusations. A couple of times I've felt like a complete ar$ehole, after seeing little kids lost in supermarkets etc, but I can just imagine some deranged parent seeing me talking to their kid and saying that they hadn't been an irresponsible parent and lost their kid, I'd tried to abduct them or some such nonsense. Imagine what could happen if a woman reported her 7 yr old daughter missing and then there's security footage of you carrying her or walking along holding her hand, the fact that you were on the way to the information desk won't necessarily be enough to keep you out of jail if someone decides to accuse you of being on your way to your car.

well i feel the same brodes....i know what i did was good so stuff everyone else who turned a blind eye!
The lady i helped was most greatfull, i waqs happy to help her out in her time of need.

i'm glad there are people out there that would help me if i was in trouble (as in you guys, love ya!), it always seem to be the verry young or the very old who have helped me or helped someone with me.

Sdaj,
I ALWAYS put others first. All that matters to me is what I think. Bring on the lawsuits if it means saving someones life or whatever.

Bry,
I am glad that other people can still feel the same way I do, after being ridiculed and sworn at for doing the right thing!

Another story,
I used to spend a lot of time on a MTB... I was riding it to the shops, I was hit by a reversing car, and thrown off my bike. There were about 50 people in close proximity to me all I got was laughter! Bastards!

All this kind of reminds me of the first Halloween move. Where she runs away from the killer, and makes it out onto the street, all everyone did was turn off their lights and lock their doors!! Maybe that movie is making serious comments on society (sorry, studying literature, I could write an 5k essay on 'See Spot Run' nowadays ;) )

Ah, I remember being a lot more idealistic some years ago. A world full of deranged, bitter and twisted people has changed me somewhat. I would certainly put myself in some legal risk if it meant saving a kid's life or something, but the world is screwed enough for me to have drawn the line a little closer to the conservative side when it comes to helping the absolutely vulnerable (ironically, this often includes those most in need).

I hope you never have the misfortune of your good deeds bringing you misery.

its not only americans. A guy climbed up on to the top of a house and dived into a couple of centremeters of water. And successfully sued (but lost on appeal).
What we need is a Richard Cranium cause in our laws, if you act like a Richard and hurt your self, then you lose the right to sue.

Yeah, Australians are just as bad these days. The guy who jumped off a cliff was Australian, and other Australian cases include a guy who stopped his car on a bridge because he needed to take a piss, there was a 6 foot fence preventing people jumping over, he climbed this and hurt himself then successfull sued because the fence wasn't big enough to prevent him from climbing it. Another Australian case is a woman being chased by a duck, she got $20,000 - not because it had bitten her or anything, but because it scared her. Funnily enough, an emu chased me at Healsville sanctuary about 3 days later, surely that must be worth at least 10 times a duck scare!

I'm waiting for someone to get bitten by their own dog then sue the council for allowing them to keep it. Perhaps if you fall over you could sue the local council for not having put a pillow there for you to fall on. Someone at my high school sued the school because he was sunburned during lunch break (he had to leave a couple of weeks later because we teased him even more than the guy who got caught spanking the monkey in the toilet!). I can't remember how much money he got, a few thousand I think.

And then there's road-rage everyone!! lol

Had a bloke I let into traffic one morning abuse the blazes out of me because I waved him in to get in front of me! You'd think he'd be happy, but he spent the best part of ten minutes jumping up & down in his car giving me the bird! lol That was until I got level with his car again! Nice and close with the big Falc, electric window comes down, and me mad as anything bangin' on his window wanting to know what his problem was! lol Strangely enough he never turned to look at me or even give a reason to his GRUMPINESS! Still amuses me to this day!  :D :D

I love road rage  I shouldn't be allowed to have a licence!
