Hi Guys, i have a glass aquarium that i plan on using for my blue tongue lizard, however as there is no room in the house for the tank and stand we have found a place outside where it fits. The spot is undercover and only receives direct sunlight for around 30 mins a day early in the morning. My first question is this okay? Will the tank be ok where it is or should i try and find a different spot altogether? Before i put the blue tongue in i will of course test the temperatures over the course of a week to make sure that there isn't any extreme temperatures when it is in the line of the sun.

And this brings me to my second question, at night it is getting quite cold here in Brisbane and especially with the tank being outside i was thinking i should have some form of heating. I thought this could be in the form of a heat cord tile positioned under a hide that turns on when the lights turn off.Would this be sufficient or should i get a CHE or some form of light to raise the ambient temperature?

All ideas and advice are greatly appreciated.
Much thanks

uvb does not go through glass so you would need a uvb light. for out doors you should avoid glass tanks, you can measure the temp now but its winter wen summer comes and its 32 degrees the glass will heat up and be hotter.

can you get a mesh enclosure? i use one thats a rabbit hutch and wen it rains they stay in the hide area and come out and bask in direct sun light wen they want.

i also use no heating as part of the mesh cage is in direct sunlight for most of the day so they bask naturally.

I forgot to mention that it has a mesh top and that i have a uvb tube running along the top of that so it should be alright.

Thats a fair point about in summer with it heating up, when it comes ill have to monitor the temps closely. I havnt really looked at having a proper outdoor enclosure but they seem like a good idea so ill have to look into them more. Thanks for the advice :)

One last question, if i was to build an outdoor pit, approx 1.8mtr by 1.8mtr, would i be able to keep both blue tongues and bearded dragons in there?

Thanks, ausreptiles101

blue tongues can be territorial so be careful if you have 2 or more in 1 enclosure. blueys and bearded dragons can get along in the same enclosure as long as they have space to avoid each other wen they want to be alone, also many hides and feed regularly there should be no issues.
