Hi everyone,

As you may know some I experienced some problems recently with ONE of bluetongues not shedding to well causing the dead skin to build up around his limbs cutting of circulation like an elastic band! I have managed to remove all of the dead skin which was great. However his feet still seem to be extremely swollen! They have not gone down one bit since I removed the dead skin! What should I do? :(

Below is a pic of his swollen limb:

Thanks allot,
Terry

There is a fair bit of redness under the limb, does the betadine remove swelling or does it just remove the blood?

if u have removed all the excess skin and it doesnt go down in time, theres always a chance the foot is dead, does he still use the foot, move toes ect when u hold him?if it doesnt go down a trip to a herp vet may be in order

betadeine just protects wounds from getting infection

As long as all of the skin is removed I think the problem will right itself & circulation will get back to normal........

It is a case of... It took a while to get like this & it will take a while to get better...

Thanks jinjajoe, the skin has been removed for a month though and still hasn't got better!

Have a really close look as you may find that there is still a small ring of dead skin in the crease.
You now need to check on this foot at each shed. You may find that the skin stays attached around here from now on.

yep you may think you have it off but another ring of skin may remain !!!!!! bathe the feet in warmish water to loosen......

as peter has said & by the intensity of the swelling it looks like there is still something strangling the foot...... seriously are you 100% sure that no skin remains ?? it can be hard to see & can form an almost transparent noose......

I cant offer any advice, but i hope it gets better soon, it looks so painful!!

Thanks Bel!

Underneath his toes it seems to be quite red! Caused by the blood should I put bedatine on it?

From the degree of swelling and the crease when you have removed all the retained shed there should be exposed flesh and a little bleeding in the crease. The foot is going red because there is a lack of proper circulation. If its not raw in the crease then in all likelihood the skin is still there. You will need to debride any dead tissue. Sorry to harp.

Okay I'm just guessing here as I don't keep Blueys.
In humans if there is excess fluid in a limb it's elevated so the swelling decreases.
Reckon that would be pretty hard in this case. However if elevation doesn't work
often a diuretic is given. If blueys eat cabbage, dandelions leaves or parsley (naturally occuring diuretics)
then it could't hurt to adjust the menu.
As I said if this is incorrect can someone please say so. But to me I can't see a problem
if that is (or could be) part of their diet.
