hi, i think my 9 year old girl is due for a clutch this year,

im wondering how big does the male snake have to be compared to the female?

thankyou

size does not matter, age/sexual maturity does, as long as the male old enough..

any size sexually mature male could do the job but you would have i better chance with a larger male.

i dont have a male yet, i want to get one very soon so i can start him cooling. i need to know how big he has to be tho

i would be trying to find a 5-8yo to put with her, even older, males tend to be of age from 2 1/2yo but can go as young as 18 months old, to put with her i would look for a male that knows what to do(breed before) that said if you havnt got things ready by now id wait till next year..

youd be better off using someone elses male, i dont think you will find one for sale that size and have it ready in time, but plenty of people have massive males that they would be happy to breed with yours!!!

Some males will be intimidated by a huge female and not do the job. Just a thought.

You said you wanted to purchase a male soon and start cooling him in preparation for breeding, but you made no mention of quarantining him before introducing them?
As said above i would agree that maybe aquire the male and plan on breeding next season after sufficient time to isolate the new comer to protect your collection.

why the sudden rush to breed? as has been pointed out. what about quaranten, pre cooling preparation? think of the health of your snake/s over the reasons to breed
