I am going away for two nights and was wondering if my babys will be alright. I fed Cuddles my children's python yesterday so he should be fine till I come back. Fatso the juvie beardie is the one I worry about. I have the light on a timer and if I feed him just a bit more than usual do you think he'll be ok?

I will be away for two weeks in the Christmas holidays. I wish I could take my animals with me:)

My family are going to board the cats if we can't get anyone to look after them, but what about my reptiles???

I wonder if pet shops or vets look after lizards/snakes......any ideas?

Well I dont know about your beardies but your pythons will be fine just dont feed them for a week before you go away so when you get back theres no smelly mess to clean leave plenty of water dont think pet stores or vets would look after them should find someone to look after them

For your beardie feed him a whole bunch, and leave some veggies in there if you are really worried. When mine had parasites he wents weeks without food and got over it just fine.

This story could get me burnt but i'll share anyway.

I live in a remote indigenous community in Arnhem land. In june i had to go down to Alice Springs for a conference and was then going back to my community, out bush for a while, back to my community and then to Darwin. Long story cut short, i was meant to be back in my house about every 10 days but due to car and subsequent money issues i didn't get back home for 5 weeks.

A YF whip i have who would weigh less than 20g, maybe even less than 15g, ended up going over 8 weeks without food and without water for about 4 weeks. When i got home i was expecting it to be dead but luckily for me it wasn't. Rather dehydrated but still alive and i think its food fasting cured its pickiness.

GORDO I am shocked!!!! ....actually when it comes to the water, remember the old pet bowls that you could screw a 2 litre coke bottle full of water on to ? I have not seen them in a long time ..at least then if you knew you was going away and got a bit side tracked ..the 2litres would be better then a standard bowl..

I have gone away for a few weeks and I approached the vet they were actually really keen to get some time with my herps, when I came back my turtle and beardie were a little on the fat side though : /

If I'm going away for a night or two I just switch all the lights off (shingle and beardie, great health) and let them have a nice sleep. When I got back and warm them for a few hours they're real active and ready to eat - this happens once a month or so when I go to stay with someone and nobody will look after them... but I've never had a problem. :)

I got back today and my beardie is fine!yay! I had his light on a timer and fed him heaps of mealies and a big salad before I went. He was happy to see me (or was it just the food I was holding?) and he did two poops that I have now cleaned up.

I still need to arrange care for the Christmas holidays..........

Check out pet carers in your area. Where I live there are a few that visit your home to water plants, walk dogs ect.

Where about in SE Qld are you? Maybe some nice person with references on here would help you..

I'm in Warwick. We now have a bluetonge as well. I'm mostly worried about my beardie. 2 weeks away this summer and I don't know who would be prepared to give him live insects. Could I freeze some crix to make it easier

PM me if you would like details of a qualified specialist reptile minder

Cheers
Sandee :)
