Science and Technology
This program examines how the discovery of the "Hobbit" human has changed our understanding of human evolution. Also, how the personal story of one man's battle to recover from a stroke has helped give new hope to others.
Lizard Runner
Lizards have got to be one of Australia?s little evolutionary success stories: of almost five thousand known species worldwide, over six hundred live here. But they don?t all live in peace. The big, fast goannas, like the Racehorse Goanna, love to make a meal out of other smaller lizards, like the Spikey Dragon lizard. So how come the slower lizards aren?t all eaten by the gung ho goannas?
That?s exactly the question zoologist Chris Clemente?s been asking. We?re experts at measuring how sports people flail their limbs about, and Chris thought it was time to give the reptiles a run. And what he?s found is that in the lizard world, the secret to escaping a predator is all in the legs.
