The herpshop black ones are great!

I have had one in a GTP cage going for close to 2 years with a dimming thermostat.

I believe the type of thermostat will affect the life of bulb and they will work on any type, but last longer with dimming type.

I have been using ceramics with on/off thermostas for years. I have had ceramics last over 7 years with these thermostats. It only blew when i moved the cage.

Hi there,

I have been using ceramic bulbs for a long time, no probs at all using them with on/off thermostats. I do have one piece of advice for you as I learnt the hard way myself. I always get the pet shop to plug the bulb in at the counter, as they only take a few moments to start to heat (not to full capacity) within a few minutes. Sounds like your bulb is to blame. BUT do check that your on/off thermostat is working as well as I have had a brand new one of these that was faulty.

In the twenty odd i have purchased over the years, i have had only one not work out of the box, which sounds like your problem.
I have some which are still going strong after about 5 years, others blew in less than a year.
Interestingly, even those of the same brand and wattage do not give off exactly the same degree of heat, which is worth while knowing if you use one thermostat for multiple enclosures or if you replace a blown one.

I got one a new one in today, works great. I just had to bend the metal prong to get it to work

I am now using 3 ceramics in my tanks, i have had another dud one, but other then that they work well.

im running a total of 5 heat emitters .... they are great , iam planning on swapping all enclosures over very soon .
